Upcoming Training Courses - Online Referee Companion Course

Referee Training!
AYSO 1463 has a REGIONAL REFEREE COMPANION COURSE incoming (Field Portion).

Parents (8U, 10U, 12U & Above Divisions)
Your teams will NEED Referees so make sure to sign up for this course.
We promise it'll be a fun time. 

BEFORE attending the FIELD portion, participants must: 
(A) Complete the Online Referee Course 
(B) Complete Safe Haven, CDC Concussion Course, Cardiac Arrest Course, and the Safe Sport Online Course 
Note: All of these courses can be found on Etrainu.

Before attending the field portion you are required to complete the Online Regional Referee Companion course. 

  • The Online portion where you get to learn about the Laws of the Game, in soccer they are Laws and not Rules. 
  • Our on-field portion is to review the Laws, going over some examples and do some light field work (dress comfortably)

Requirements for All Volunteers


1) Volunteer Application

Every volunteer (coach, referee, board member, team parent, etc.) must submit a Volunteer Application each year through our Sports Connect portal. 

2) Live Scan (Begins January 2022) 
Live Scan fingerprinting is an ink-less electronic fingerprinting that scans your fingerprints directly into the computer to do to determine who a person is so that a background check can be done. AYSO 1463 will provide more information on the process to take to get a Live Scan completed for our region. More news to come soon. 

3) Sterling Background Check
The application is delivered to AYSO National Headquarters and to Sterling Background Checks. Sterling provides all volunteers with for an annual background check which screens for volunteers’ suitability to work with our participants. Once the results of the background check are received by National and by Region 1463, the volunteer will be evaluated for the volunteer positions selected.  

In addition to the annual Volunteer Application and Background Check, there are certain training requirements that must be completed by all volunteers. 

1) Safe Haven 
All volunteers must complete the AYSO Safe Haven course before they are allowed to participate in any region activities.  This course can be completed online through AYSO's learning platform, AYSOU, under the "Online Courses" tab. All volunteers are required to complete this prior to receiving team contact information and prior to holding team practice, so please complete the course at your earliest convenience.

2) CDC Concussion Awareness
The Concussion Awareness training can be completed online through the AYSOU platform.  Once you have successfully completed the course, your certification record will be updated.

3) Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) 
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest training can be completed online through the AYSOU platform. Once you have successfully completed the course, your certification record will be updated. 

4) Safesport Course (Not on etrainu / Instructions Below)
A comprehensive overview of facts, principles, and strategies to help you provide safe and positive sport environments. Units include:

  • Sexual Misconduct Awareness and Education
  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Physical and Emotional Misconduct (including bullying, hazing, and harassment)

Accessing and Completing Safesport: 
1 | Log into your Sports Connect account 
2 | On your Dashboard, select the Volunteer tab on the left side of the screen 
3 | Check the box next to Safesport 
4 | Click Renew & Update 
5 | A prompt will pop-up. Click the link to get Started 
6 | You will need to create a Safesport account. During the process when you see the question for "Membership ID", leave this blank. 
7 | Once the account has been created, go to "My Courses" and select "Safesport Trained- U.S. Soccer Federation." 
8 | Complete the course 

To access the online courses, please log into eTrainu and search for these courses under "SAFE HAVEN." Info on how to access eTrainu can be found below. 

How to Use eTrainu


To access your training log into your AYSO Region Registration portal (Sports Connect). 

1) Log into your AYSO 1463 Sports Connect account 
2) Click the volunteer menu option on the left-hand side and then select the "MY TRAINING" button 
3) Once hit, Sports Connect will shell out to the eTrainu website. eTrainu will automatically log you into their site. 

Enrolling into Training on eTrainu
Having an account with eTrainu will give you access to a range of training courses and resources 24/7. These can be enrolled directly through the Training Library. 

1) Click on the "Training Library" menu bar option available on the left-hand side of the screen. 

2) You will then be directed to the Course Categories page where you can select the category where the desired training course is assigned. Click "view courses" to view the suite of courses within that specific category. 

3) Locate the course you wish to enroll in and click "Enroll." Safe Haven's Online course is used as an example below. 

4) Once processed, the course will be allocated  to your account and you will then be taken directly to that course. You can click "Start" to commence the course. The course can be accessed any time by clicking "My Training."

Training seminars are available. While courses are available with AYSO Region 1463, other training seminars will be made available throughout Southern California AYSO regions that you can take advantage of. More information to come soon.

Volunteer Board Tent Duties

Volunteer support is crucial to making sure things run smoothly. If you've signed up to volunteer at the AYSO 1463 Referee tent, please be aware of the following tasks that you'll need to complete during your tent duty timeframe: 
  • Provide Water for Referees during Halftime 
  • Provide Equipment for Referees
  • Provide/sign-off soccer balls to Coaches 
  • Provide information to Parents/Guardians
  • Keep fields free of trash 
  • Provide Pins to Coaches - Sign-off Sheets 
  • Provide Referee Cards to Coaches 
  • Verify Referee Cards are filled out correctly
  • Provide Contact Info for Volunteers 
  • Provide Game Time information 
  • Help Set up Tents - Opening
  • Help Put Equipment Away - Closing
