RAINOUTS AND OTHER WEATHER-RELATED CANCELLATIONS
Field closures, rainouts, and any cancellations that we have advance notice of
are exclusively announced through email.
An email is sent by 8:00 am if the entire day of soccer activities on Rivertowns grass fields is cancelled due to field or weather conditions.
If soccer is ON, but conditions change during the day, we do not send a cancellation email. If unsafe weather or field conditions occur later in the day or while soccer activities are happening, individual coaches, trainers, coordinators, or referees can cancel activities from the field.
NOTE: If soccer is ON -- no email is sent. Soccer is played in the rain in many cases.
For teams with AWAY games, the coach should hear from the opponents if soccer is cancelled, since AWAY fields are not Rivertowns fields.
Here's some additional info, if you are interested:
>>> On inclement weather days, for every parent or player wishing for soccer to be cancelled, there are many others hoping for the opposite.
>>> If the fields are in playable condition, and the weather is just "unpleasant" we will hold soccer activities. As with any weather, dress your players accordingly. For younger players, PreK through 2nd grade, if your children will be uncomfortable or upset in the rain, then do not attend. For players 3rd grade and older, whose teams depend on them, make every effort to attend -- and as always, notify the coach if your player will be absent.
>>> On Saturday or Sunday, dedicated volunteers check the fields at 7:00 am following recent rain to ensure safe conditions. The field-checkers communicate, decisions are made, and dedicated volunteers send an email blast to all registered parents. The cancellation message is sent by 8:00 am. Please appreciate their efforts -- they are setting their alarms on Saturday and Sunday mornings -- and if you are an early riser, consider volunteering to help out with this task. Email
[email protected] to enlist.
>>> If rain or thunderstorms occur later in the day, all coaches know the safety procedures and are empowered to make a decision based on the weather and field conditions to cancel. We place safety above all; if a coach cancels, abide / follow instructions.
