Tryouts / Assessment

Register for Tryouts /Player Assessment
Rivertowns United FC  Travel Teams for Fall 2019 / Spring 2020

We are pleased to announce that registration for tryouts/player assessment for next year's RUFC travel teams is OPEN at!

If you are not sure what travel teams are, check out 5 difference between our Rivertowns AYSO program and our Rivertowns United FC (RUFC) travel program at bottom. We have travel teams from U8 though varsity, so if you are interested, read on!

For players born 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007, you need to register so we can plan for and accommodate you at the in-person evaluation session on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Springhurst Elementary School Turf Field. Player birth year determines tryout/assessement time and team designation (not school grade). Even if your player has a conflict that day, you must register to indicate your interest in joining our travel program and so that we can make alternative arrangements for an evaluation.

For players born 2006 or earlier, you need to register so that we can contact you to schedule a tryout/assessment by appointment.

Current RUFC travel team players are guaranteed placement next year, but need to register to indicate that they are coming back. Current 2007-2012 birth year players are strongly encouraged to attend tryouts/assessments to make the experience meaningful for potential new players. (We need you there, current players!!!)

Click here to REGISTER at our travel registration site - there is no cost to register!

How do the May 4 in-person tryouts/assessment work? Players arrive, check in, get a "bib" with a number, and take the field with their peers as directed and rotate through various stations. NYCFC Youth Trainers evaluate soccer skills and BlueStreak Sports Trainers evaluate general athletic ability including speed, agility, and relative body strength.  May 4 participants will receive results from the assessment (emailed at a later date) that will place their performance across the spectrum of the club for that age group and gender, as well as against other similar athletes in their regional database.

If you have a player who wants to take soccer to the next level, consider trying out for our travel program!

What are some of the differences between our AYSO and travel programs?

1. AYSO is recreational. All players can participate - there are NEVER tryouts. Travel is competitive. Players must attend a tryout/assessment, be evaluated, and participation is by invitation.

2. AYSO runs on Saturdays and Sundays only. Travel team participation includes Saturday, Sunday, and a weekday evening.

3. Travel teams play 50% of games at home in the Rivertowns and 50% of games away against travel teams from other clubs.

4. In 2018/2019, AYSO registration was $225 for the year (fall/spring), $40 for a uniform, and no additional costs. Travel registration was $335 for the year (fall/spring), and there are additional costs, including uniform, paid trainers, winter sessions, and tournament fees.

5. AYSO teams are organized by school grade. Travel teams are based on birth year.

Similarities: Children having fun, playing and learning the beautiful game of soccer!
