Travel Program

For Fall 2020, because of Covid-19, we will be holding an in-house program, RUFC Home Advantage, for our competitive players, not our usual travel program.

The below content is not applicable during Fall 2020 because we are not participating in the WYSL, but we are leaving it here so families can learn how our program runs during "normal" times.

Travel teams are the advanced play program of the Rivertowns United Football Club (RUFC). We field teams in multiple age and skill divisions of the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL).

Dedicated professional trainers help elevate individual and team skill levels.

Our teams will compete at appropriately competitive tiers of league play.

Our coaches promote a positive approach to player and team development.

We strive to promote love and respect for the beautiful game of soccer.

Season Dates

WYSL games run September through November in the fall, and April through June in the spring, weather permitting. There are no WYSL games over holiday weekends, although some teams participate in various tournaments in the area.

Travel teams should refer to WYSL website, under Schedules/Scores, for the actual team schedules, which are usually posted right before season start.

Joining a Travel Team

Team formation happens after player evaluations are held each May. Dates are announced on our website, in the Enterprise, and through email to our current registrants in AYSO and travel. After teams are formed, depending on the age group, there may be some additional team openings. Contact the travel coordinator directly about this at [email protected]

What is the time commitment?

10-week Fall and Spring seasons
1 to 2 practices per week @ 1-1.5 hours each (depends on team and age level)
1 game per week on Sundays, with home games in the Rivertowns and away games in Westchester (and possibly Manhattan, Rockland, or Putnam
Opportunities throughout the year for additional player development including tournaments, winter leagues and / or winter practices

Who are the coaches and trainers?

Practices run by a combination of professional trainers and parent volunteer coaches
Games coached by parent volunteer coaches – but with trainer feedback and occasional attendance

What are the costs?

Rivertowns annual registration fee: $350.00 (this could change -- it was the registration fee for the most recent soccer year)
Rivertowns travel uniform: $100.00 (uniform required for all new players; returning players need to purchase if they need a larger size or if their coach instructs them to so that all players have unique jersey numbers)
Trainer fees: $100-$400/ season (depends on how often a professional trainer is used)
Various costs, including tournaments, facility fees for indoor training, winter training, soccer gear
Approximate total cost of travel soccer : $550-$800/season
Our club offers need-based scholarships.
