The Referee is the sole judge of whether or not the individual item in question is permissible to wear in the gameWhat equipment will my child need?
Soccer equipment includes the following items:
- uniform (jersey/ shorts, and sock)
- athletic shoes (or cleats *)
- shin guards (required)
- an appropriately sized soccer ball
- water bottle (since it will get warm and players need to replenish fluids)
* Players may desire to have a pair of cleats. But, cleats are not required, especially for the younger divisions. Metal cleats are not allowed. Toe cleats are also not allowed (i.e., a shoe with a cleat right at the toe, such as a baseball or football cleat).
Please note that the player's shin guards must be completely covered by the socks (i.e., the socks must be worn over the shin guards, NOT under the shin guards). Shin guards are required (mandatory) for both practice and games.
Player's are not allowed to wear:
Players cannot wear any jewelry, including bracelets, earrings, wrist watches, bobby pins, barrettes, etc. Medical id bracelets are allowed but must be taped down to prevent the potential for injury. Please avoid getting your player's ears pierced prior to the season as the earrings MUST be removed for games and practices. Covering with a band aid is not acceptable.
Players are not allowed to practice or play games with any type of splint or cast. Removal of the cast or splint at the field will result in the player's disqualification in accordance with the AYSO Rules and Regulations.
Where do I get the equipment?
Uniforms are available at a uniform day from AYSO. (Please bring your child along to help size the uniform or know your child's sizes!) Our uniform includes 2 jerseys, shorts, and 2 pairs of soccer socks.
The remaining equipment is available at AYSO registration or can be obtained from local department and sporting good stores.
My children have outgrown their uniform or cleats. What can I do with them?
Our region will accept donations of used cleats and uniform items. Kids grow rapidly, and most need new shoes yearly, resulting in a lot of slightly used cleats. Please recycle your used cleats! We make the used cleats available at evaluation day on a first-come/first served basis to anyone who finds a pair that fits. Used uniforms are used as part of our scholarship program.
Hair Beads and Clips
There has been a modification to the National Rules and Regulations (2.VI.F) of the AYSO Reference Book. The modification addresses the motion approved by the NBOD on hair beads and medical devices, so numbers two and three are both correct answers. If the beaded hair is too short to tie up or back, a beanie or head covering may be used to secure the beads to the head.
