David Downs has coached youth soccer throughout Westchester County for over 25 years and currently serves as the head coach of the Masters School boys JV soccer team. He is also on the Board of Trustees (and past Chairman of that board) for Everton FC Westchester, a USSF Development Academy club. Prior to joining the Masters School coaching staff he was Commissioner of the North American Soccer League, and immediately prior to that he was Executive Director of the U.S. Soccer Federation's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Downs moved to Hastings on Hudson in 1985 and began coaching and refereeing as a parent volunteer in AYSO 324 in 1991. Both his daughter and son played youth soccer and high school soccer in Westchester County, and after they graduated from college Downs began the transition from his career as a sports and television industry executive to licensed professional youth soccer trainer.
For the past sevearl years Downs has served as a trainer for several Rivertowns United teams; prior to that he was a trainer working with different clubs in the WYSL. He has also served as the Director of Coaching for Rivertowns United and helped us elevate our travel program.
Downs is a 1977 graduate of Amherst College, where he played soccer for the Lord Jeffs (as did both his children). Born in the Netherlands, his passion for the game is deep-rooted and those roots include a grandfather who played briefly in the Dutch First Division.
