 EXTRA FAQ

How Does EXTRA Compare to Club?

Both AYSO EXTRA and Club are competitive soccer programs targeting players that have a stronger desire and ability to play the great game of soccer. However, AYSO EXTRA, focuses on the development of the players in a competitive environment that adheres to the core philosophies of AYSO. All players in the AYSO EXTRA program will play at least 50% of every game.

What is the Quality of Coaching/Training in the EXTRA Program?

All EXTRA Coaches possess, or are working towards their Intermediate or Advanced level coaching certifications. In addition, professional UK trainers also work with the teams/players to further develop and enhance their skills for 9 weeks during the Fall season. The Region will also host goalkeeper training to develop the depth and quality of goalkeeper play.

How Many Tournaments do EXTRA Teams Participate In?

There is no limit, but most teams play between 6-8 tournaments in Spring from January through June. Some EXTRA teams may choose to play Fall tournaments as well.

What is the Season Game Schedule Like for EXTRA?

The game schedule is very similar to that of teams in the regular program with 10 games per season, usually on Saturdays. The only difference is that EXTRA teams play half of their games in Chino Hills, and the other half in regions around the Inland Empire (associated with AYSO Sections 1, 10, and 11).

When are the Tryouts for EXTRA?

Tryouts happen once a year for EXTRA, This year they will be in May. Click here to visit our Player Tryout page.

Can players participate in EXTRA and Club Soccer?

Your child may be selected with the expectation that he or she will NOT participate in a Club program while playing in the Extra Fall season, because the two programs require such high levels of commitment that a player on both a Club and an Extra team probably cannot satisfy his or her obligations to both teams. A player who joins a Club after being selected to participate on an Extra team should expect to lose his or her place on the Extra team.
