One of AYSO’s greatest strengths is its emphasis on safety, accountability, and responsible volunteer participation. AYSO requires volunteers to complete screening and training designed to protect players and support a safe environment. In California, that includes background checks, SafeSport, Safe Haven, concussion awareness, sudden cardiac arrest training, and Live Scan fingerprinting where required.
For families, that structure matters. It means the region is not operating without standards or oversight. It means youth soccer is being delivered within a system that prioritizes child protection, training, and accountability. Regional operations guidance also places responsibility on Regions to follow accounting guidelines, maintain proper equipment and uniforms, and uphold conduct standards including Kids Zone expectations.
Structure does come with expectations, and those expectations can require more from volunteers. But those same standards are also part of what gives families confidence that the program is being run responsibly.
