Refereeing with AYSO Region 716
Referees play a vital role in creating a safe, fair, and enjoyable soccer experience for all players. AYSO provides training, education, and certification opportunities at no cost, and prior refereeing experience is not required. Parents, guardians, high school students, and community members are all welcome to become referees.
Why Become a Referee
Refereeing is a meaningful way to support youth sports while developing valuable skills. Referees help ensure player safety, learn the Laws of the Game, and contribute to a positive game-day environment. The role also offers flexible scheduling and is a great opportunity for students seeking community service or volunteer hours.
Time Commitment
Referee participation is flexible and based on availability.
Referees may choose how many games they officiate each season.
Most matches are scheduled on Saturdays.
Games typically last between 45 and 90 minutes depending on division.
You are not required to officiate every weekend, and assignments are coordinated around your availability.
