Referees are essential to creating a safe, fair, and fun soccer experience. AYSO provides full training and certification at no cost, and no prior experience is necessary. Whether you’re a parent, high school student, or community member, we welcome new referees at all levels.
Why Become a Referee?

Time Commitment
- Referees can choose how many games they cover each season
- Most games are scheduled on Saturdays
- Each game lasts 45–90 minutes depending on age group
You do not need to be available every weekend — we’re flexible and work around your availability.
Training & Certification
AYSO provides all necessary training, including:
- Safe Haven and Concussion Awareness training
- Referee Certification Course (online for 6U/8U and in-person or hybrid for 10U+)
- Mentorship and support for new referees
We make it easy for anyone to get started — no prior officiating experience required.

- From your dashboard, click “Volunteer” and select the Referee role
- Complete your application and required training
