Coaching with AYSO Region 716

AYSO is a volunteer-run organization, and coaches play a vital role in our program. Parents, guardians, relatives, and community members are all welcome to coach. No prior soccer experience is required. AYSO provides training, resources, and ongoing support to help coaches create a positive and development-focused experience for every player.

Why Volunteer as a Coach

Coaching with AYSO allows you to make a meaningful impact on young athletes while supporting your local community. Coaches help players build confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game, while also developing leadership and communication skills of their own.

Time Commitment

Time commitments vary by division and team needs.

Playground and Schoolyard
One session per week, typically one hour on Saturdays.

6U and 8U
One weekday practice and one Saturday game per week.

10U through 14U
One to two weekday practices and one weekend game per week.

Practice days and times are coordinated by each coach and division leadership to balance volunteer availability and player needs.

Training and Certification

All AYSO coaches are required to complete the following before coaching:

Volunteer application and background check
AYSO Safe Haven training
Concussion Awareness training
Division-specific coaching course (online or in person)

Required training varies by division. Most entry-level coaching courses are available online and are designed to be completed efficiently while meeting AYSO safety and education standards.
