Point System

AYSO is 100% volunteer run. The region cannot function unless we have volunteers running the board, helping with field set up and take down, and most importantly, officiating the games.

You may say to yourself, “I know nothing about soccer.” I knew nothing about soccer many years ago when my kids played AYSO soccer. We will train you about the laws of soccer. During your first season as a referee, we are primarily looking for you to work as an assistant referee only. However, many folks who became regional referees enjoyed officiating and later took additional classes to improve their skills so they could referee higher level games, and many continued to officiate long after their children moved on from AYSO.

IMPORANT INFORMATION

We do not keep stats. It is not about wins and losses, it is about having fun and building players.

To be eligible to play in extended play and then on to area playoffs each team, 10U and above must earn referee points.

Each team is REQUIRED to earn 40 points total.

10 of these points come from game cards…you must turn in a completed game card after every game, even if you did not have a referee. 1 referee point per card.

20 points by half season (September 27th) and another 20 points by the end of the season to be ELIGIBLE to play in extended play.

Each game (10U-14U) you center is 3 points and each game you AR is 2 points.

Each game (8U) you center is 2 points and each game you AR is 1 point.

You cannot earn points by refereeing your own game.

A referee team of 3 can earn 7 points per game.

Parents CAN earn AR points IF they are certified Referee volunteers.

Parents are NOT eligible to earn CR points if their child is playing.

YOU WILL ONLY GET REFEREE POINTS IF YOU ARE CERTIFIED AND SIGNED UP AS A REFEREE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

You must register as a referee and take a few online courses as well.

The ONLY way your points will count is next to your signature at the bottom of the game card titled "Referee Signatures" you write the team code you are refereeing for to earn points.
For example if you were earning points for the u10 girls team 3 you would write next to your signature 10G-3.

WHY SHOULD YOU REFEREE?

Imagine you show up for your kid’s soccer game, but there are NO REFEREES? Everybody goes home very disappointed. Could it happen? Yes it could. The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. As such, we rely on YOU to volunteer to put together a comprehensive program for our kids. Referees are one of the cornerstones of AYSO. We will TRAIN you to be a referee. We will even give you a stylish uniform! You will then be able to enjoy the game much more because you will now understand it. You will also be helping your team by getting them “referee points”.

QUESTION: Can kids referee?

Answer: Yes they can! You just have to be 12 years old to be a youth referee. It’s a great way for a kid to learn the game even better! And it counts for community service hours for high school kids!

THE USUAL EXCUSES not to referee:

I’m busy.

Answer: So am I. So are we. So are the coaches. So are the team parents. So are the field coordinators. So are the Snack Shack volunteers, Etc.

It’s hard to schedule around my kid’s game.

Answer: Same for everyone!

Someone else will do it.

Answer: If everyone thought that way, no one would do it.

I don’t know anything about soccer.

Answer: Neither did I. You don’t have to know anything. We train!
