Referee Information

Welcome Referees!

Refereeing is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can do as part of the AYSO family. AYSO welcomes parents, relatives and friends to referee. Whether you are a novice or a past player, we will teach you everything you will need to know about the game and laws of soccer. We're here to help you get the most out of referee experience to help enrich children's lives with training and mentoring.  This year we will even be adding more referee tents for each of the divisions (i.e. George Lane, Lower Joe Walker, etc.) and mentoring opportunities to help you transition into the unique position.

Referee Training

All volunteers start by taking a Regional Referee class.  All training clinics are taught by AYSO Certified Referee Instructors.  Those who want to improve their game, to provide an even better experience for the kids will get several opportunities to upgrade later to an Intermediate, Advanced or National referee level.

Important Updates for Returning Referees - Annual Update Meetings

Join us for Annual Update Training for Returning Referees. The Laws of the Game have significant changes in 2019-2020 that will directly affect us in AYSO. Join us to learn more and be up to date on the recent Law changes. You can learn more either by viewing the Annual Update Flyer or by visiting our Upcoming Trainings page.

Steps to become an AYSO Certified Referee:

Before you can become an AYSO referee there are several requirements that need to be completed. All these steps are necessary to protect our children and protect both you and our region from lawsuits, as all volunteers are required by law to be properly trained.  Below is an outline of these requirements, which is also documented in the Referee Training Matrix below:
