What is AYSO Extra?

AYSO Extra is a competitive, year-round soccer program designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities. The objectives of the Extra program are to enhance each player's experience and individual growth through the game of soccer, while retaining the spirit, organization, and philosophies of AYSO. The sixth philosophy of AYSO, Player Development, is a primary focus of the AYSO Extra program. Extra teams are formed by Regions throughout Section 10. The Extra teams play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 - 14 games), with playoffs held at season's end, as well as in various Tournaments and other competitions throughout the off-season.

Benefits of Playing on an AYSO Extra Team:

  1. Player Development: The Extra program will focus on the development of the whole athlete; including technical training, tactical abilities and fitness levels that set a clear path toward achieving realistic goals and realizing potential, while having fun and learning the game of soccer.
  2. Year-Round Play: In addition to Fall season league-play against other Section 10 Extra programs, Extra teams continue to train and compete during the Spring & Summer off-season.
  3. Small sided games: Fewer players on the field (9U & 10U play 7 v 7; 11U & 12U play 9 v 9) allows for greater touches on the ball for all players involved.
  4. Everyone Plays: All players play 3 Quarters of each game before any player plays 4 Quarters.
  5. Positive Coaching: All coaches must be certified and experienced, as well as positive, instructive and encouraging with the players.
  6. Coach Mentoring: Extra Coaches have access to coordinate practice-session plans with Advanced Trainers and additional Training Materials. Extra Coaches are required to participate in the continuing development of their coaching skills.
  7. Well-Trained, Quality Referees: Referee teams are mindful of player safety and love of the game.
  8. Registration fees include home and away uniforms and an additional out-of-season Extra tournament.

New For 2019:

Quartz Hill AYSO is re-introducing Extra for the Fall of 2019. The implementation will be limited to 2 teams in 2019 to ensure the processes, commitment and execution of the program meets the overall AYSO Mission and Philosophies of the Quartz Hill AYSO. The goal and expectation is to offer more divisions in 2020.
