Core
Our core program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement and learning that happens on the fields. AYSO is best known for our core program – it’s where the large majority of kids fall in love with soccer and make memories that will last a lifetime.
There are six core values – or what we call AYSO’s Six Philosophies – that are the foundation of our core program, and all others:
Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development.
These are the essence of AYSO and it all starts with Everyone Plays.
Here in AYSO, Everyone Plays means that no one spends their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Everyone plays at least half of every game.
Also, teams are put together in a way that makes playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. It’s not about blowing out another team with an unbelievable score; it’s about sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible team mate and opponent. Developing players is what we’re about, because soccer skills and life skills go hand in hand. AYSO’s main purpose is to get players on the field, provide them with good coaches, and teach them to play soccer.

Common Questions and Thoughts.
What’s the Board doing? Immediately after the last registration date, your Region Board begins the process of putting the teams together for the upcoming season. When this is completed, the uniforms will be ordered and the coaches will be notified.
When do the coaches get their teams? Coaches should expect to receive their team rosters on or around July 22nd.
When do the players get called? Teams may begin practice on or after August 1st. The coaches will call the players usually the weekend before practice starts. They will give you all the information you will need in regards to practice times and location. Each coach sets his/her own practice days, time and location. The practice fields are located either at Highlands Elementary School or Rancho Elementary School in Spring Valley.
It’s after August 6th, and my child has not been called. What do I do? Please do not panic if you see teams practicing and your child has not been called. Not all teams begin practice at the same time. The very young teams, in particular, do not always begin practice on August 1st. Also some coaches may be out of town. If your child has not been called by August 6th, please email the Division Coordinator or the Region Commissioner.
What else does my child need? The registration fee includes: national membership, complete uniform (jersey, shorts, and socks), supplemental accident insurance, field use, equipment use, practices, games, pictures and fun! In addition, you may need to obtain soccer shoes, shin guards, a soccer ball (size depends on age) and a water bottle.
How often are practices and games? Practices are held once or twice a week depending on the age of your child (field and times to be determined by your child’s coach). Games will be on Saturday's with the first game on September 9th. Games will be held at fields in the Sweetwater Sports Complex in Spring Valley as well as away games in the East County / South Bay area of San Diego.
Refund? Players withdrawing prior to August 1st (first practice) will be issued a refund minus the $20.00 membership fee. After September 9th (first game) are subject to Region Guidelines "Refund Policy" and Regional Commissioner approval. All requests for a refund must be submitted in writing: "Snail" Mail: AYSO Region 258 P.O. Box 1132 Lemon Grove, CA 91946 or Email: The Regional Commissoner [email protected]
Late registration? Late registration begins after our last registration on July 10th and subject to waiting list.
Where will my team practice?
AYSO 258 uses 2 fields in our community. For insurance reasons you can only practice on our designated fields. The coach will generally pick the field closest to where they live, but may adjust this depending on crowding or the needs of the team.
When will my team practice?
Again, this is at the discretion of your coach. Most coaches will pole their families for a time and day(s) that work best for the maximum number of players.
What about carpooling?
All of us have busy lives and carpooling is encouraged between parents on the same team. For liability reasons, any parent transporting someone else’s children should have a letter in their glove-box specifying that they have permission to transport other family’s children.
Please Remember… AYSO is a parent-based volunteer organization established to provide a positive experience for our children. Go to the games. Learn the rules. Above all, be tolerant of the children’s coaches and referees mistakes and weaknesses.
