Thank you for visiting the Ref Page:
This year we will be trialing a new way of training referees in order to make it EASIER to become certified.
This year, for the 1st time, you can take an ONLINE course (at your own pace) followed by a few hours of in person training.
The in-person sessions that include field work will be offered:
Saturday September 18th , 2021 ( 8.00am - 11.00am approx)
Location is La Mesa Jnr High Room 612
Remember, you must do the online course FIRST, then followed by the field session on Saturday Sept 18th.
You have to register for this class on AYSOU. If you are having trouble with this, let us know.
There is a COMPLETE step by step at the bottom of this page.
If you need help, please contact the webmaster(who is also the Instructor) [email protected]
Once the season starts you can find the online Ref Scheduler .... CLICK ME
New Referees
Becoming an AYSO referee is a multi-step process. The first two steps are the same for all AYSO volunteers.
- STEP 1 – Complete your volunteer application. You have to be a "Registered Volunteer" to Referee or Coach. This is mandated by the state of California with a background check to verify you are OK to be around children.
Log in to our Region 677 Sports Connect and select "Register" or "Log In" if you already have an account, (top right)
Complete the volunteer application, indicating that you wish to volunteer as "Referee" (pick just one division so you only fill out the form once)
E-mail [email protected] so we know you are doing this process and we can keep track if there are any issues with the system.
NOTE: Complete details on HOW to become a "Registered Volunteer" are HERE
- STEP 2 – Complete Safe Haven, CDC Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certifications. (same for all volunteers)
Log in to AYSO-U via our home page at www.ayso677.org Click on the AYSOU tab.
Click on "Online Courses" to see a list of online courses, and then click on the Safe Haven course. Take the modules online. This should take about 40-50 mins
- STEP 3 – As above. On AYSO-U, go to the online courses. Take the Regional Referee Training Online Course.
- STEP 4 – As above. On AYSO-U, go to the In-Person Courses and sign up for the Regional Referee Companion Course. It is in the Instructor Led courses folder
Find the course in Canyon Country and register. It is Saturday Sept 18th It is just one click to register.
You must attend.
Prerequisites for the Class
- You must be at least 12 years of age.

Returning Referees
The Basic Referee Online Training Course is a great way to refresh your knowledge before the season starts!
All AYSO volunteers must submit a new volunteer application each year: (That includes me)
If you have not taken Safe Haven Certification since July 2018, you need to take it again as it has been updated with additional information:
Log in to aysou.org
Click on "My Courses" to see a list of online courses, and then click on the Safe Haven course
Referee Online Scheduling
THIS is the link to Referee Scheduling System. ** Ref Scheduler **
There is a link on that page to register if you are not yet part of the Online Ref Schedule System.
Note: The online Referee Scheduling system has nothing to do with AYSO or being a Registered Volunteer. The online Referee Scheduler is an online database that Region 677 uses so that referees can schedule their matches. You have to be a Certified Referee to use the system.
Referee Staff
We used to have Referee Staff. Unfortunately after many years of great service, they have moved on.
We NEED some referee staff. We need Referee Schedulers. If you can help, please email [email protected]
