Championships

Canyon Country ALL STARS Shine at Post Season Playoffs and Championships.

Congratulations to the Boys 10U, Boys 12U and Boys 14U All Star soccer teams from AYSO Region 677 - Canyon Country for their amazing performances at the Area 10S Playoffs in Santa Clarita and the Section 10 Championships in Bakersfield during the months of January and February.  All three teams went undefeated in Area 10S playoffs, each earning a title in their respective division and so set high hopes going into Section 10 Championships in Bakersfield.

How big are the Section 10 championships?

Section 10 is comprised of 8 Areas and 60 Regions representing approximately 60,500 players. From the colorful High Desert on the East, to the oceans of the Central Coast on the West and from the dramatic mountains of the Transverse Ranges of the San Fernando Valley on the South to the beautiful Yosemite Valley on the North in California.

The Boys 10U All Star team, coached by Omar Falah, won 5 games in the Santa Clarita Area playoffs scoring 25 goals and allowing only 4 goals in their own net. At the Section 10 championships in Bakersfield, the All Star team continued its undefeated streak Saturday launching themselves into the Championship game on Sunday. Unfortunately the winning streak ended at 9 games when the team fell to a tough Burbank team. Still, the Canyon Country B10U team took home 2nd place out of the 16 skilled teams that earned a berth in Bakersfield from all over Section 10. (see above)

Coach Bill Daggs' Boys 12U All Star team won its 4 games in Area 10S playoffs. Despite not being able to play a 5th scheduled game due to rain and unplayable field conditions the team still managed to rack up 40 goals and only 4 goals conceded. In Bakersfield the Boys 12U team continued its offensive prowess scoring another 18 goals and earning 3 more victories on Saturday. Sunday play was not as favorable to the All Stars resulting in two losses. The Boys 12U All Star team left Bakersfield in an impressive 4th place, especially considering the breadth of the competition to make it that deep into post season.

The Boys 14U All Star team scored a remarkable 26 goals and allowed just 1 goal during the Area 10S playoffs in Santa Clarita. This earned the boys a spot in the ultra competitive Section 10 Championships in Bakersfield. Coach Lawrence Castruita's B14U All Star team played hard on Saturday in Bakersfield earning 1st place in its pool advancing the team into Sunday play.  On Sunday, the team dropped its first game to the eventual champions from Northeast Bakersfield. In spite of this loss the B14U All Star team battled back in the second game of the day to earn a 2-0 victory. With the win the Boys 14U All Star team secured the 3rd place spot. To earn 3rd place from a field the size of Section 10 is great accomplishment.

Compliments to the players, coaches and parents of Region 677 (Canyon Country) for persevering through rain delays, sloppy field conditions and cold temperatures over the course of two months. Well done!

Also, accolades were plenty for the Canyon Country referees that traveled to Bakersfield to help in making the Section 10 Championships a success all round. Well played...err...reffed.
