Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches or Co-coaches

Sign up and we will provide you with all you need to know to coach any particular age group. AYSO Coach Training and Safe Haven Certification are youth coaching curriculums accredited by The National Council for Accreditation of Coaches Education. AYSO is a National Affiliate member of The United States Soccer Federation, recognized by FIFA as the national governing body of soccer in the United States. AYSO is the second largest member of USSF and a member of the Youth Council of the USSF. AYSO is also associated with The National Soccer Coaches Association and The Positive Coaching Alliance.

AYSO is a national organization that has spent time and money collecting research and consulting experts on child psychology, physiology, sociology and development. Each of our courses are geared to better educate our volunteers about the age-specific needs and abilities of our players. You will be taught how to run a training session, how to teach specific fundamental age-appropriate soccer skills, using the games/drills from our library of soccer activities that best encourages your players to learn the principles of good soccer play. You will learn how to provide an atmosphere where every child will be able to learn the game on their terms and where every child comes off the field with a smile on their face and a sense of accomplishment in their hearts.

What is your commitment?
During the season a one hour match on the weekend and a one hour training session (practice) during the week. (Kinder kicker coaches are committed to only an hour and a half each weekend.)

To be an AYSO coach or assistant coach you must be:

  1. A currently registered AYSO volunteer. You must apply every season. Register at Click for Volunteer Application
  2. Safe Haven certified. This course needs to be taken (live) one time only. (We encourage all volunteers, team parents as well as parents to take the Safe Haven certification course.) (We encourage all certified coaches to review the course information via course material, on-line or certification course.)
  3. New Jersey law requires every youth sports volunteer to complete an appropriate concussion education course. AYSO provides the CDC Concussion on line course at aysotraining.org
  4. Currently trained as a coach for the division you intend to coach. (We encourage each coach to attend training every season.)
  5. The Borough of Leonia Requires all volunteer coaches to submit to a fingerprint scan background check.
