Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA)

Welcome to the Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA) page.

The primary responsibilities of the CVPA include:

  • Screening Volunteers at the local level.
  • Working with the Regional Board to ensure all approved volunteers are registered and assigned to their specific positions.
  • Working with the Regional Coach Administrator, Regional Referee Administrator and Regional Commissioner to ensure that all coaches, referees and volunteers are properly trained and certified and that they receive an annual Safe Haven protocol review.
  • Serving as a contact for child abuse, child protection concerns.
  • Working with the Regional Commissioner to ensure mandated reporting of suspected child abuse.

Thank you for Volunteering in AYSO Region 116.


AYSO requires that all volunteers Register as a volunteer and complete a Volunteer Application every year. Note: please make sure that you register in the same program and division that your child is registered.

AYSO, state and federal authorities require that all volunteers in youth sports programs complete a criminal Background Check as well as additional youth safety related training.

To complete your volunteer registration for this Membership Year, 2024-2025, you will also need to complete six Required Certifications.  You will not be allowed to perform your volunteer duties until these requirements are completed and Verified.


The six Required Certifications are:

- Background Check - you are a new volunteer needing your first Sterling Background Check, or
      
- you are a returning volunteer whose Sterling Background Check is Expired

- Concussion Awareness

- Fingerprinting California Only (Live Scan)

- Sudden Cardiac Arrest

- AYSOs Safe Haven

- SafeSport

Fingerprinting California Only - from your AYSO Sports Connect account, click on the Volunteer tab on the
left-hand side of  the screen to see the
 status of your Required Training

Click the box to the left of Fingerprinting California Only and Click Renew & Update for instructions

Save your receipt for the $25 and the region will reimburse you

Please do NOT upload anything to your Sports Connect account in the Fingerprinting CA field as this will
      delay the return of your Live Scan certification results - see Fingerprinting CA Only instructions

  Please note that you will Not be able to print training certificates for your Sterling Background Check or
  Fingerprinting California Only as the results load directly into your Sports Connect account from Sterling and
  the CA DOJ.


P.S. some online courses may not load your course completion to your Sports Connect account.  If you encounter this, then
        upload the course completion certificate by clicking the box next to the course name and clicking Renew & Update.
