Fall 2012: Game 5 v Voorhees SC "Thunder"
Our game this weekend against the Voorhees “Thunder” was one our girls tied, 1-1 but in the end it felt to the coaches and the team like we lost the match. From the onset the Thunder out performed us by winning almost all 50/50 opportunities, communicating with each other and completing passes. We slipped into some bad habits of passing without looking, not talking when girls were open or under pressure and watching while the other team won the ball.
With that said our defense had a fantastic game. They are the ones who kept the score at 1. Specifically, Quinn, Jill, Remy and Anna all deserve props this week for fighting hard in the back field and shutting down multiple attempts by Voorhees to gain an advantage. More props go out to Remy who had one of the most beautiful goals of the season. Like a shark she hovered outside the 18 waiting for the right time to strike and when the opportunity came, she did just that. With her head down and with a powerful left shot, she sunk the ball into the back of the net keeping the team in the game. Nice Job Remy!
After the game, it was good to see the girls take responsibility for their performance, and show that they were unhappy with it. This demonstrated to us that as a team they are not only growing technically, but mentally and emotionally. Hopefully they can take this and translate it in to a stronger desire and that will carry them farther this season and future seasons.
