Referee Requirements

ALL AYSO referees and assistant referees must meet the following requirements:

Must be a registered and approved volunteer for the current program/season (including background check clearance).
Completed the AYSO Safe Haven course.
Successfully completed the Concussion Awareness course.
Completed the AYSO Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness course.
Safe Sport certification must be current/valid.
Be trained per the AYSO National Referee Program Guidelines for the age/skill level of the match they wish to referee.
ALL Referees must complete the AYSO Live Scan (Fingerprinting) process.
Minimum age requirements:

DIVISION	REQUIRED CERTIFICATION
10U	Regional
12U	Regional or Intermediate
14U	Intermediate or Advanced
16U/19U	Advanced or National

Applications for Referee Certification

The Application for Intermediate Referee Certification must be completed by the candidate for upgrade to Intermediate Referee level.

The Application for Advanced Referee Certification must be completed by the candidate for upgrade to Advanced Referee level.

The Application for National Referee Certification must be completed by the candidate for upgrade to National Referee level.

For Intermediate and Advanced Referee upgrades, the verification of requirements is performed either by the Area Referee Administrator or the Area Director of Assessment.

For National Referee upgrades, the verification of requirements is performed by the Section Referee Administrator or Section Director of Assessment. Your new badge and certificate of completion will be mailed to you.
