The AYSO volunteer position of Regional Commissioner is intended to have the responsibility and the authority to manage the day-to-day business of the Region as described in Article III of the Standard Regional Guidelines within the framework of the AYSO operation regulations. The RC is nominated by the sitting regional board for a term no shorter than one (1) year to a three (3) term. The nominating vote is to be properly conducted via the process defined in the AYSO Resource book, documented and recorded in the minutes of a regional board meeting. The RC is approved by the Area Director and Section Director and only becomes an Executive Member once the National Board of Directors appoints them by vote. National Bylaws 7.

The role of the Regional Commissioner serving in the capacity of an AYSO Executive Member is overseeing the regional strategy, finances, volunteer recruitment, scheduling, Regional and National Rules and Regulations, Policies and Protocols, National Policies and Bylaws, Regional growth and most of all ensuring the program supports the AYSO Mission Statement of “Developing and Delivering a Quality Youth Soccer Program.

Regional Commissioner Job Description

In compliance with AYSO National Rules and Regulations, the Regional Board of AYSO Region 3 announces the opening of application period for the position of Regional Commissioner for a 3-year term. The position of Regional Commissioner is the person charged with the daily operation of the local AYSO region. The Regional Commissioner position requires a volunteer time commitment averaging 10-20+ hours per week. During the months of the primary and secondary program hours can increase depending on program requirements, meetings and special events.

Qualifications to be eligible to nominate yourself, or be nominated for this position, are that you are (preferably) a current or past Regional Board member or a registered volunteer, in good standing with the organization.

The process is to have open nominations and candidates presented to the Nomination Committee (NC). The NC will then vet each of the candidates for eligibility and as a volunteer in AYSO in good standing. At the conclusion of the open nomination time period, the NC will send the candidates applications to the Regional Board to review. The Area Director will then conduct an election to vote on who will be the Regional Commissioner. Once that is complete, the Area Director will forward to the Section Director and then to the AYSO National Board of Directors for approval.

The current term for AYSO Region 3 Regional Commissioner will end December 31, 2025. The new term for the RC voted in will begin July 21, 2025 to shadow the current Regional Commissioner, Alan Beacham and then starting January 1, 2026 will become the new Regional Commissioner.

The nomination period is open now and will close May 30, 2025 at 5:00pm. It is anticipated that the vote will occur Thursday, July 10, 2025. The Voting Members of the Regional Board will vote to determine the incoming Regional Commissioner.

The Nomination Committee should vet each candidate as he or she enters the nomination process, including at a minimum:

· Confirmation that the candidate is currently registered as a volunteer with AYSO.

· Confirmation that the candidate has passed the AYSO screening and background check.

· Confirmation, to the extent reasonably possible, that the information provided regarding his or her training and experience with AYSO is accurate.

· The name and statement of qualifications of each candidate must be provided to the current Executive Member holding that position and the Executive Member at the next level up (i.e. Area Director for Regional Commissioner candidates, Section Director for Area Director candidates, and National Board of Director Liaison for Section Director candidates) in order to confirm the candidate is in good standing with AYSO. If the election is for Regional Commissioner, the Area Director shall also forward the name and statement of qualifications of the candidate to the applicable Section Director.

· If a prospective candidate for Regional Commissioner is deemed by the Nominating Commission to be unqualified to run for the position, a representative of the Nominating Committee must discuss the issue with the Region’s Area Director prior to declaring the individual as unqualified so that the Area Director may provide guidance and support as appropriate.

The applicable Area Director and the Section Director each have the right to approve or disapprove the nomination of a candidate as Regional Commissioner. National Bylaws Article 7.03. The applicable Section Director has the right to approve or disapprove the nomination of a candidate as Area Director. National Bylaws Article 7.02. Early notification of potential candidates to the Area Director and Section Director allows those Executive Directors sufficient time to vet the candidate and determine whether or not they will approve the candidate before the names of the candidates are announced. If there is any doubt, the Area Director or Section Director, as applicable, can have private communications to the affected candidate in order to avoid potential embarrassment.
