 What is EXTRA

Region 106 is proud to provide our players with a program that offers soccer development opportunities similar to club soccer but maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that they will play at least half of every game.  AYSO EXTRA is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills, and abilities.  The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in addition to primary programs operated under the AYSO philosophies.  EXTRA is committed to developing a world-class competitive soccer program that is focused on providing a more challenging environment and enhancing the training and development for our more dedicated soccer enthusiasts. All interested players will have to attend a try-out in the Fall and/or Spring each year, where they will be evaluated by an assessment team. Players who are chosen to participate will be notified shortly after tryouts.  Players who are not chosen can be placed on a core team in the Fall or Spring season.  EXTRA teams compete against other EXTRA teams throughout AYSO Section 11 as well as tournament play.

TRYOUTS

·        All players must register for the tryout in advance.

·        The tryout is open to ALL players based on the birth year of each division.

·        ALL players (current EXTRA players included) MUST attend at least one Spring tryout to be considered for a team, attendance at both tryouts is encouraged.

·        There is no fee to try out and you do not need to be currently registered in AYSO to tryout.  Registering for the Fall or Spring program is encouraged if you plan to participate in region 106’s core season.

·        Players will be notified soon after tryouts if they are selected for an EXTRA team.  Players will need to register for the core season if selected.

·        Please read the "TRYOUT CHECKLIST" on this page for important details and how to register for the tryout

COSTS

·        EXTRA program registration fees are the same as the core program.  Early bird discounts are typically available.

·        EXTRA teams are self-funded that said there is no set cost for our EXTRA programs but generally the cost of a complete season (one-year 8/1-7/31) will vary.  Expect to pay approximately $600-900.  Usually collected in separate payments.

·        Fundraising - teams will usually use fundraising to cover a portion of fees.

·        Fees collected by teams are used to buy uniforms and pay for season fees at a minimum. Teams may also elect to purchase other gear like balls, bags, warm up suits or other items.

·        Many teams also choose to participate in local tournaments before and after the season. All fees associated with these optional tournaments are paid for by the collected fees.

SCHEDULE AND GAMES

·        EXTRA Fall season usually starts late August or early September and goes through November with a post season tournament held in December.  Start and end times can change year to year but will usually follow the same pattern.

·        EXTRA Spring season usually starts late February or early March and goes through May/June.

·        Teams will individually decide if they opt to play in the section circuit or if they play tournaments only or a combination of both.

·        There will be some travel involved, but the games are generally in Orange County and Los Angeles County.  Generally, teams won’t travel longer than 40 minutes.

·        Teams can travel longer for tournaments but that will be decided by each team.
