American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

Socorro, NM's youth soccer program, serving kids starting at age 3

Coaches Must Be Registered Volunteers

All coaches must be registered in Blue Sombrero, no exceptions

Our Region must pay $25.00 per background check. This is required by AYSO and protects our region and our children.

Since January 1, 2001, all American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Regions, Areas, and Sections are required to comply with the AYSO policy on criminal background checks. AYSO acts as the criminal background requesting entity.

Any person wishing to volunteer in AYSO must complete an AYSO Volunteer Application Form in the Blue Sombrero system each year, submit an e-signed copy to the Region and consent to a criminal background check. The application form includes a Criminal Background Check Release. All requested information must be provided by the applicant, including Social Security number, driver license number (or other government issued photo I.D. if the applicant does not drive) and date of birth.

Coaches Home

Our coach volunteers range from parents with no soccer experience coaching for the first time, to seasoned veterans who have coached 10 seasons or more.

As a coach, you will motivate, congratulate, teach, encourage, drill, console, strategize, lead, and mentor a small group of children. Even if you have no soccer experience, AYSO will help teach you the principles of the game and how to coach kids to have fun and learn soccer. You'll learn about the game and you'll likely love it so much you'll become a coach next year.

All coaches must be registered volunteers. Please log in above, and follow the prompts to complete volunteer registration.  Please ensure you complete the entire process, including the esignature at the end.

This year all coaches will have access to The Coaching Manual at no cost. This is a great tool for coaching development and growth, and it will help you improve your understanding of coaching. It also provides practical examples of training sessions that can be implemented to accelerate the development of your players by creating a first-class soccer learning environment. We will provide more information on that prior to the start of the season.

Please note, every volunteer must have a background check done. The steps to complete this are located at:
https://wiki.ayso.org/wiki/Renew_and_Update_your_Background_Check

You will also need to complete Safesport training. Those instructions are located here:
Once that is complete you can upload your certificate by following these instructions:

All volunteers are also required to complete several training courses through eTrainU before stepping out onto the pitch to coach our youth. Access that training by following these instructions: https://wiki.ayso.org/wiki/Access_to_AYSOU

Uniforms

At the start of the season, coaches get a box of t-shirts and pinnies for their players that includes a range of sizes to fit a typical cross section of our players. If you need a shirt or pinnie of a different fit, let the RC or equipment manager know and we will try to fulfill your request.

Players will retain their t-shirt and coaches will retain the pinnies to be used at each game.

Practices

AYSO has permission to practice at Sedillo Park and the Athletic Complex. All coaches must sign up for a practice park where you will hold your practices. The City of Socorro needs this information in order to properly schedule park use.

Please keep in mind that the high school soccer teams practice at the athletic complex and have priority over AYSO. Please be respectful, and if you cannot work out any park space issues on your own, please contact the  RC.

Please ensure your practice space is clean and free of trash when practice ends. Please also help your parents understand that we share all parks with all other youth sports. The best solution we have seen is with the SHS Boys team; the team has to run a lap around the field at the next practice for every piece of trash coach has to pickup.
