Weather Policy

Our Weather Policy

General: Soccer is an all weather sport. It is played in the rain, however that doesn't mean that you should always hold your soccer activities. It is our policy to postpone or cancel any and all soccer related activities during weather that includes thunder or lightning. In cases of passing storms, please vacate the fields immediately upon the first sight of lightning or first sound of thunder. You are allowed to return to the activity ONLY after 30 MINUTES has passed since the LAST lightning or thunder. If you wait 25 minutes and hear thunder the clock restarts to 0 and you wait 30 minutes again. No exceptions. You are welcome to hold your activities in regular rain showers, but use good judgement.

Practice: Practices can be held in rain if you'd like. However cleats are very hard on saturated fields, so if you'd like to practice in the rain, we simply ask that you be mindful of field damage that you may cause. Move your practice off to the side, off the actual field to prevent field damage. Kids usually enjoy wet practices, some parents do not.

Games: The decision to play or cancel HOME games is made by our Regional Commissioner. Please abide by their decision. You will be sent an email days that our fields are closed due to weather, generally first thing Saturday morning. If you need to cancel your game for any reason whatsoever, please notify the Regional Commissioner.

Practices

Coaching can be tough! Especially if you don't have a plan for your practices. Kids of all ages need to be engaged and focused during their training if you want them to benefit from the training time you have. The biggest mistake coaches can make is showing up to practice without a plan for the day. It leads to confusion for the players, frustration for their parents and anxiety for you, the coach. So use the resources on this page as a way to help plan your practices.

Massachusetts Youth Soccer: MYS has developed great session plans for kids of all ages. Their plans are so complete that you could probably do nothing but follow their session plans as an AYSO coach. Feel free to use their website as a guide no matter how experienced you are at soccer.

SoccerXpert: SoccerXpert is a website loaded with tons of free drills for players of any age. It's well organized by both age and by skill set. Either use their drills as proposed or put your own spin on them so they work for your team.

Switching the Field: STF is one of our absolute favorite resources, we share their videos on our Facebook page a lot. They provide short videos that very clearly show some technical footwork that you teach the kids. Learn the technique yourself and teach it to your players. This is a link to their YouTube page.
