Volunteers

If you are reading this it is because you have volunteered (or soon will!) for the upcoming AYSO season. Welcome! However, before we get you out on the field we need to take care of a little administrative overhead. By completing this mandatory process you are protecting yourself legally as well as ensuring the safety of our players and the continued success of our program.

More basic information is currently available online at www.ayso.org.

STEP 1 - REGISTER

AYSO is a National Organization that requires all of its volunteers to register annually with their national database regardless of what position or role they are filling. This is very important for two reasons. First, all registered volunteers are background checked by AYSO to ensure regions aren't putting player safety at risk. Second, only registered volunteers are protected under AYSO liability insurance. This means that you cannot be held personally liable if a player is injured during the normal course of play. IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER YOU CANNOT VOLUNTEER...THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

To get started you need to create an account on this website. If you’ve already registered one or more players you can use the same account you setup during that process. Just click the ‘Login’ button found at the top right of the page and login.

If you have not previously created an account just click the ‘Register Now’ button found at the top right of the page and follow the on-screen instructions. Once your account is created you will receive an email with all the details for handy reference.

NOTE: If you experience problems logging into the website there are troubleshooting steps under the ‘Registration’ menu on the website.

Now that you are logged in you will be taken to your account home page. It should look like the image below. Click the VOLUNTEER tab and then over to the right click the Find Volunteer Roles button:

The web site will walk you through a series of screens to collect the necessary information. When you get to the end of the registration process you will be asked to provide an e-signature. This is very important so please make sure you e-sign.

STEP 2 - VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES
Submit your background check via Sterling.  They should have sent you an email when you registered.  At the payment screen if you select the second option not to pay at this time, defer payment, etc, AYSO Region 172 will cover the costs of the Background check. If you accedentally pay for it yourself, just email us a copy of your reciept and we will reimburse you for the expense.  If you can not find the email, please reach out to [email protected] for them to resend it. Unfortunatly AYSO National requires the checks through this site and we can not accept any copies of checks from your place of employment.

STEP 3 - TRAINING

AYSO has their own online portal to access all required courses.  A link can be found in your volunteer tab or by going here  https://ayso.learn-usa.etrainu.com/training/

*****Use the same login and password that you do to enter our website.****

Volunteers need to complete the following Courses:

  • AYSO’s Safe Haven
  • CDC HEADS UP Concussion Training
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Online Course
  • Under “Coaching Courses,” you need to complete the course that corresponds to the level which you are coaching.  There is one course per division.
  • SafeSport Training - Federal Regulation - see below for more information on this course.
Please save your PDF certificates to your computer.  In a perfect world, the certificates pull over into the AYSO verification system, but we have found that occasionally, some of the time they have not been.

COACHING PROGRAM

Because "Positive Coaching" is one of AYSO's guiding philosophies, coach training is one of our highest priorities. Through AYSO, our region also provides a wide range of courses to continue instructing its volunteer coaches.

No Experience? No Problem

  • Our volunteer coaches receive complete training right from the beginning!
  • Training and certification for all coaches.
  • Age-specific coaching courses provide training for coaches of every level of experience.
  • Complete with manuals, handouts and outlines that are continually reviewed and updated.

OFFICIATING PROGRAM

AYSO referees do more than just enforce the Laws of the Game. Their job is to make sure the game is safe and enjoyable for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators—and themselves.

  • Referee training that teaches not only the letter of the law, but the "Spirit of the Game."
  • Six levels of AYSO referee training.
  • USSF cross-certification.
  • Training for referee instructors, administrators and assessors.
  • Youth Referee Program
  • AYSO referees are volunteers, so we want to be sure they have as much fun as the players do.

SAFESPORT MANDATORY TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS  - Please Read

SAFESPORT MANDATORY TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS

The 2017 SafeSport Act has expanded Mandated Reporters to include adults authorized to interact with children. Due to this expansion, that includes AYSO and it requires training on child abuse and mandated reporting.

Effective, January 1, 2022, U.S. Soccer will no longer allow equivalent training* and has mandated SafeSport training.

What does this mean for AYSO?
AYSO will comply with the federal SafeSport training requirement and we will integrate with the U.S. Soccer Education and Learning Center as well as their Player Health and Safety Courses.

The training is the full course in the first year, which is 90 minutes, and repeated every three years, followed by annual updates in the in-between years, which are 30 minutes.

How will it work?
You will be able to access the SafeSport training by following these instructions:
1. Login to your Sports Connect account where you registered as a volunteer.
2. Click on the volunteer tab on the left-hand side of the screen
3. Click on SafeSport box
4. Click on Renew and Update
5. A screen will pop up where you will click on the “click HERE” link or copy and paste the URL into your browser to begin training
6. After completing download your Certificate, and upload into your ayso sports connect account/
