Primary Season


P
rescott AYSO Primary Season averages around 950 participants in the primary season.  

 When?

 The primary season practices begins in late August.  First games are normally in early September.  See the website calendar for specific dates. 

Ages

The Primary Season is open to anyone aged 4-18. 

Games

There are normally 10 primary season games all played on Saturday.  All game schedules are posted on this website 

Location

All Primary season games are played at Pioneer Park.

Practices
Practices are located at Pioneer Park and Heritage Field.  For directions,  go to Field Maps.   Practice times and days are chosen by the coach of the team.   See table below called Primary Season rules for practice guidelines per age division.

Cost

Player registration fees are $70 if you register before June 1st and $80 from June 1st to June 30th and $90 from July 1st to August 4th.   There is a discount of $10 for siblings.  Prescott AYSO does provide scholarships to those with financial need.   For player scholarships fill out the playership form.  Please send the form to kris@azprescottcpa.com or 716 N Montezuma Sttreet Suite C, Prescott, AZ 86301

Equipment
Players are provided a jersey, shorts and socks.  Uniforms are given to coaches and handed out at the first practices,  5U and 6U uniforms are handed out at the first games.  Players are required to have shin guards and soccer cleats.

The primary season is geared to players of all skill levels and athletic ability

Registering a Player

There are two ways to register a player for the primary season.  

1) Apply Online.  Click on "Register Now" tab at the top right of the page or go to PrescottSoccer.net Click on the link that best fits you and follow the instructions on the next page.  You can pay by credit card on the website.  AYSO will accept most major credit cards.  You can also pay by check by mailing a check to AYSO Region 172 P.O. Box 11452, Prescott, AZ 86304.  Or you can drop off a check to The Prescott Armory Parks and Rec at 824 E Gurley Street, Prescott. Write checks to AYSO Region 172.  Write "primary season" and the player's name on the check.   Once you have registered online there is no need to send in paperwork.

2) Live registration.  go to one of Prescott AYSO's registration days.  All registration days, times and locations are posted on the calendar of this website. 

3) If a refund is needed fill out the refund form.  Send the form to the Prescott AYSO treasurer listed on the Board Positions page.

*5U: No coaches will be contacting players prior to the first game. 5U teams will be split on the first game day.  Parents must accompany each player on the first day.

5U-12U Heading is not allowed in practice or games.  An indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player heads the ball.
14U heading is limited to 30 minutes per week in practice with no more than 15-20 headers per player.  No heading restrictions in games.

Coaches

All Coaches are volunteers and are chosen by Prescott AYSO before the primary season begins.   Coaches are normally a parent of a youth soccer player but can be a non-parent.   The coach's child will be placed on the coach's team.  There are two ways to sign up as a coach;

1) select the box on your child's registration application noting that you are interested in coaching.  You will be contacted later

2) Go to the "Contact Us" page to contact the coach administrator.

  Coaches are trained by AYSO and require the following;

  • Submit a volunteer application.  Register at PrescottSoccer.net Register Now button on top right corner of page.
  • After the coach has submitted a volunteer application, an AYSO ID number will be assigned.  For training, the coach can use the AYSO ID number to sign in to PrescottSoccer.net AYSOU tab.  
  • AYSO soccer training for the age division coached.  There is 6U-8U training all done online. 10U and 12U training have online and field requirements.  Intermediate is preferred for 14U and Advanced for 16U and above.  Check the website calendar or contact the coach administrator for Intermediate and Advanced training.
  • Safe Haven certification which includes a background check
  • Concussion awareness certification
3) If you have a USSF license, you can transfer your credentials to AYSO.  Go to Coach Training Equivalency Policy

COACHES; Keep in mind that you must carry player registration with the parental medical release forms with you at all times.   These forms should be in your coach folder.  If you are missing all or some of the forms, contact the region secretary.

Referees

Anyone may sign up to by an AYSO referee.  AYSO Provides all training.  All AYSO referees are volunteers.  AYSO referees are trained through an AYSO training program.  All referees require the following;

  • Submit a volunteer application.  Register at https://PrescottSoccer.net.  Write down your AYSO ID number
  • Go to AYSO http://aysou.org.  Enter your AYSO ID number and your last name.  
  • You can take the basic Referee course online.  Check the calendar for referee training dates and locations.
  • You will need Safe Haven certification which includes a background check
  • You will need a concussion awareness certification
  • For any questions concerning referees, go to the "Contact Us" page to contact the Referee Coordinator.
 Parents
AYSO practices and games are geared toward player development and meant to be safe and fun for all participants.  Parents are expected to follow AYSO guidelines and cheer for their children at games.  Parents are expected to allow the coach to guide the team during the game and allow the referee to enforce game rules.  Please read Safe Haven for parents and kids zone.
 
Primary Season FAQ's
Q: AFTER I REGISTER, WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK?
A: Your son or daughter will be placed on a team around late August.  Your contact info will be given to the coach of the team. For 5U, there are no assigned coaches.  All 5U games are Jamboree style.   For 6U, the coach should be contacting you before the first games. For 8U-16U, the coach should be contacting you before the first practices.   If you haven't heard from a coach by then, please use the "contact us" form on this website to notify us.  Uniforms will be handed out at the coaches meeting, times and location are posted on the calendar.  Game info is below under "news by age division". 
 
Q: CAN I REQUEST A PRACTICE TIME OR DAY?
A: Practice times and days are chosen by the coaches.  All player practice requests should be listed on the registration application.  Prescott AYSO will do its best to accommodate a practice preference but not all requests can be honored.  Also, keep in mind that Prescott AYSO is run by a small group of volunteers so please be patient with any requests. The cut-off for practice requests is before the first practice.
 
Q: MY SON OR DAUGHTER HAS NEVER PLAYED SOCCER.  CAN THEY SIGN UP? 
A: Yes.  AYSO is geared for youth of all skill levels 
 
Q: HOW ARE TEAMS SPLIT UP?
A: Teams are first split by age division.  Then by gender at the lower age divisions. Then AYSO balances teams based on skill level.  Much effort is made so that teams are even.
 
Q: CAN I CHOSE A COACH FOR MY SON OR DAUGHTER?
A:  No, not typically.  AYSO puts much effort into balancing teams so there is no guarantee that your child will be placed with any specific team. 
 
Q: DO I NEED SOCCER EXPERIENCE TO COACH AYSO TEAM?
A: AYSO will train you, so no soccer experience is required.
 
Q:  AS A COACH, CAN I REQUEST THAT PLAYERS BE ADDED TO MY TEAM?
A:  Your child and the child of your assistant coach will be added to the team.  The rest of the team is added by random selection.

 Q: I'M HAVING TROUBLE REGISTERING MY SON OR DAUGHTER ONLINE.  IS THERE SOMEONE I CAN CONTACT? 
A:  Yes, Use the "contact us" form on this website. 
 
Q: MY SON OR DAUGHTER IS AN ADVANCED SOCCER PLAYER.  DOES PRESCOTT AYSO OFFER PROGRAMS FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS?
 A: Yes.  Go to the Pride Teams and Predator Teams pages 
 
Q: DOES PRESCOTT AYSO OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THOSE WITH FINANCIAL NEED?
