COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this course is to train Intermediate Referees in all aspects of refereeing to develop skills that will allow the referee to officiate most AYSO soccer matches under the AYSO (IFAB) Laws and AYSO National Rules and Regulations.
This class presumes LOTG knowledge and will NOT teach to the test.
PRE-REQUISITES
Be a certified Intermediate Referee.
1 full season (Fall or Spring) in grade is highly recommended
TEACHING OBJECTIVES
1) Be familiar with and competent in all aspects of the diagonal system of control
2) Recognize complex issues relating to cooperation between referees and assistant referees.
3) Demonstrate agility and physical fitness
4) Preparation for assessment
5) Practice aspects of mental and emotional preparation
6) Recognize (“read”) situations involving critical judgments regarding the application of advantage.
7) Consistently identify impeding an opponent’s progress
8) Recognize, punish, and conduct send-offs
9) Practice technicalities involving special goal scoring opportunities.
10) Discriminate punishment for players, substitutes, and others.
11) Practice decision-making skills.
