Required Training

The table below shows required training for AYSO volunteers. Coach training requirements are identical for both Head and Assistant Coaches.

  • Coaches are required to complete Volunteer Registration and Annual Certifications each Member Year.
  • Basic Requirements are only done once and never expire.
  • Age-Specific Coach Courses also do not expire, though you'll need to upgrade as your player(s) ages up.

For NEW Coach Volunteers: create your account
1. Create an account at ayso109.org (Sports Connect) as a primary account holder.
2. Use your LEGAL first and last name that matches your ID.
3. Upload a photo to your profile (to be used for your coach card)
4. See the AYSO Wiki for further details.

For ALL Coach Volunteers: register for a specific role/season
1. From your account page at ayso109.org, go to your Volunteer tab.
2. Click on the “+ Volunteer” link or the “Find Volunteer Roles” button.

4. Select a role (Head or Assistant Coach), select a volunteer (“Sign up [your first name]”), then click “Continue”
5. Your contact information is then shown again. Make SURE that you are using your LEGAL first and last name that matches your ID.
If you didn't enter your legal names at the beginning, you may edit that here.
6. View and accept the following (by clicking on box and entering LEGAL first and last name for each):
AYSO Kids Zone Pledge
Waiver, Consent, Release, Disclaimer and Assumption of Risk Agreement
COVID-19 Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement
The Training Items listed with a "+" are things we'll go over next, so you can click “Continue”
7. After completing Volunteer registration, you should receive an email confirmation from Region 109 <[email protected]>
8. If you need to complete or renew your background check, you will also receive an email from [email protected]. (This one often goes to SPAM, so check there.)

Check Your Volunteer Compliance
1. On your Volunteer tab you should see your Role along with all certifications
2. Next to each certification you should see a check mark indicating compliance
3. For any non-compliant items, see below for further instructions.

Submitting or Updating your Background Check (aka “Risk Status”)
1. Follow instructions included in the email from [email protected] to submit a background check.
- After completing Volunteer registration, you should have received this email (check your SPAM folder)
If not, check the box next to “Risk Status” and click “Renew & Update” – this will trigger that email to be sent
3. Check your SPAM folder, as this one often gets flagged.
4. Follow instructions, submit the application, and your AYSO record will usually update within 2 weeks.
5. Background checks must be renewed every 15 months.
