Job Descriptions
π οΈ REQUIRED BOARD POSITIONS
Regional Commissioner
Time Commitment: 4β6 hours/week, year-round
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the region
- Runs monthly board meetings and ensures regional and national policies are implemented
- Acts as liaison with township officials for field use and park facilities
- Recruits children and volunteers to participate in the program
- Oversees the opening and closing of the season
- Coordinates with other AYSO regions and sections
- Ensures a smooth, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants
Assistant Regional Commissioner
Time Commitment: 2β4 hours/week, year-round
- Assists the Regional Commissioner in all responsibilities
- Helps direct monthly board meetings and implement policies
- Assists with player/volunteer recruitment and scheduling of fields/games
- Participates in meetings with other regions
- Attends monthly board meetings and annual section conferences
- Supports the overall functionality and success of the region
Region Registrar
Time Commitment: 8β16 hours, twice a year (pre-season)
- Handles late registrations and drops
- Maintains a waiting list for players after teams are filled
- Answers parent and volunteer questions about registration
- Ensures the registration process is smooth and efficient
Region Secretary
Time Commitment: 2 hours per meeting, about 6 times/year
- Schedules and organizes regional board meetings
- Records meeting minutes and transcribes them for distribution
- Maintains official records of decisions and actions
- Attends meetings and supports board documentation needs
Region Treasurer
Time Commitment: 2 hours/week during the season
- Maintains accurate financial records for the region
- Complies with AYSOβs National Accounting Program and treasurer guidelines
- Reports financial status to the board as requested
- Prepares annual budget and financial reports
- Deposits funds, manages expenses, and ensures financial transparency
- Attends board meetings, registration days, and key events
- Develops long-term financial planning strategies
Region Auditor
Time Commitment: 1β2 hours per season
- Reviews regional financial practices for compliance with AYSO Treasurer Manual
- Verifies internal controls and documentation of financial transactions
- Reviews canceled checks, deposits, transfers, and bank account reconciliations
- Compares actual financial activity to budget and highlights any discrepancies
Region Safety Director
Time Commitment: 4β5 hours per season
- Handles all accident and insurance claim reports
- Oversees adult-to-child supervision compliance
- Inspects field equipment and ensures all goals are anchored safely
- Checks that first-aid kits are available at all fields
- Communicates safety concerns such as weather-related risks
- Promotes a safe environment for players and volunteers
Region Coach Administrator
Time Commitment: 15 hours per season
- Coordinates and supports coaches throughout the season
- Ensures all coaches receive appropriate training and certification
- Communicates rule updates and coaching expectations
- Acts as a role model and leader, promoting the AYSO philosophy
- Helps resolve coaching issues and supports player development
Region Referee Administrator
Time Commitment: 1 hour/week during the season
- Recruits, trains, and supports referees (does not need referee experience)
- Manages supplies and incentive programs for referees
- Attends monthly board meetings
- Serves as the main point of contact for referee-related questions or issues
- Ensures referees feel supported and appreciated
Child & Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA)
Time Commitment: 4β6 hours per season
- Implements the AYSO Safe Haven Program in the region
- Ensures that all volunteers submit required background checks and applications
- Screens and approves volunteers
- Serves as the liaison with the national Safe Haven office
- Educates the region on child protection, reporting requirements, and volunteer privacy
- Ensures that job descriptions and conduct standards are clearly communicated and enforced
πΌ OPTIONAL BOARD POSITIONS
Sponsorship Coordinator
Time Commitment: 3 hours/week (all year around)
- Contacts local businesses to secure annual sponsorships
- Works with the Regional Treasurer to collect donations and process reimbursements
- Coordinates banner creation and hanging the banners in the park
- Renews sponsorships each year and builds long-term partnerships
Social Media Coordinator
Time Commitment: 1 hour/week; 3β4 hours at the beginning of each season
- Posts updates about events, registration, game days, and volunteer needs
- Works with board members to communicate effectively with the community
- Helps promote league culture and visibility through social media platforms
Referee Scheduler
Time Commitment: 1β2 hours/week during the season
- Assigns referees to games based on skill level and availability
- Distributes schedules by email
- No refereeing knowledge required
Game Scheduler
Time Commitment: 4β6 hours at the start of each season
- Schedules games using online tools
- Coordinates with coaches to accommodate team and coach availability
- Works with neighboring regions when necessary
Equipment Coordinator
Time Commitment: 8β10 hours at the start of each season; 1/2 hour/week in season
- Sets up the equipment room and inventories supplies
- Proposes equipment needs and budget
- Orders, receives, and distributes equipment to teams
- Manages replacements and organizes end-of-season returns
- May assist with uniform or field setup coordination
Uniform Coordinator
Time Commitment: 2β3 hours/month (pre-season)
- Chooses and orders team uniforms (shirts, shorts, socks)
- Organizes and runs the uniform distribution event
- Resolves sizing issues (e.g., shorts swap on opening day)
- Works with the purchasing coordinator to ensure timely delivery
- Assists with equipment coordination as needed
Field Coordinator
Time Commitment: 8β10 hours (pre-season); 1 hour/week during the season
- Oversees field readiness each week (nets, corner flags, paint lines)
- Ensures field equipment is in working condition
- Coordinates paint and supplies with volunteer painters
- Coordinates the repair any equipment (e.g., broken nets)
- Attends monthly board meetings
π OTHER VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Team Parent (U10βU14)
Time Commitment: 1 hour/week during the season
- Each team has a team parent
- Helps coaches with team communication and logistics
- Coordinates snack schedules and shares league updates with parents
- Supports the coach so they can focus on game preparation
Field Painter
Time Commitment: 1 hour/week during the season (Thursdays or Fridays)
- We can have up to 3 people painting at one time
- Paints lines on the playing fields at GL Sports & Trails Park
- Training and supplies provided
- Usually done on your own schedule before weekend games
Referee
Time Commitment: Flexible, 1β2 hours per game
- Certified volunteers officiate games (center or sideline referee)
- Adults and teens (age 10+) welcome
- All training and equipment are provided at no cost
- Fulfills community service requirements
Coach
Time Commitment: 2β4 hours/week during the season
- Runs practices and coaches weekend games
- Certification and coaching supplies provided
- Plays a vital role in the playersβ development and fun
- Without volunteer coaches, there are no teams
Assistant Coach
Time Commitment: 1β2 hours/week during the season
- Supports the coach during practices and games
- May help with warmups, drills, or game-day logistics
- Training and certification provided
- A great way to get involved without the full responsibility of head coaching
