Jennifer Ramirez Scholarship
In the fall of 2012, our league tragically lost Jennifer Ramirez. Jennifer lit up the fields with her smile, her excellent soccer skills and her vivacious personality. Jennifer loved the game of soccer and always gave 100% to her team.
Jennifer's parents have graciously allowed our region to set up this scholarship for families who may be experiencing a temporary fiscal hardship, and have children who want to enjoy the game of soccer.

Foster Kids Scholarship
Over the past 20 years, government has cut numerous programs and support for Foster Families. AYSO Region 1187 wanted to help fill the gap created by the cut in funding because our board believes—and it is generally acknowledged—that extracurricular activities can help children in a myriad of ways.
Physical activity is important for optimal health, growth and development of children. Mentally, sports stimulate intellectual development, sharpen motor skills and provide emotional and social growth. Children involved in sports have higher self-esteem and more self-confidence.
Through sports, children find increased energy, longer attention spans and better communication skills. Sports serve as a positive model to follow when approaching other challenges and obstacles throughout life. The connection between academic success and athletics is strong. Teamwork, perseverance, commitment, sportsmanship, loyalty and dedication are other positives children learn through sports.
Our goal is to ensure that foster children are given every opportunity to mature into well-rounded individuals who will succeed for themselves and for society.
