Volunteer Information
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer in Region 10 Palos Verdes. AYSO is an all-volunteer organization and volunteers are essential for Region 10 to offer soccer for the youth in our Region. For us to run effectively, we need you to coach, referee, set up and line fields, coordinate snacks at games, help with registration and photo days, as well as serve on the board where you will meet other commmunity-minded individuals.
Referee, coaches (and youth trainers) and board members must register as a volunteer every year, and take a few other steps as listed in this document.
Playoff Participation Policy - Volunteers should be aware of the new policies put into place by PV AYSO that address how teams will qualify for end-of-season playoffs.
Coach Volunteers
AYSO requires coaches to be certified to the age level in which they are coaching. PV AYSO Region 10 and AYSO Area 1F offer coaches trainings every Fall for ages up to 19U. The Coaches page has all the information needed for proper training and certification.
Referee Volunteers
To ensure safe, fair and fun play, AYSO strongly encourages referees to be certified to the age levels for which they are refereeing. PV AYSO and AYSO Area 1F offer referee training classes before and during the season for referees just starting as well as those looking to upgrade their badges to referee more advanced matches. The Referees page is filled with resources on referee training and certification, as well as useful information on the Laws of the Game.
Field Setup Volunteers
Division coordinators and other volunteers who are tasked with the initial setup and lining of fields should refer to the excellent Field Setup Guide provided by Jesse Camp, PV AYSO's field guru. His method reduces the time and effort required to correctly size and layout any sized field.
Youth Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Palos Verdes AYSO (Region 10). Youth volunteers may work as trainers under the supervision of an adult volunteer or as referees/assistant referees. Trainers work with players during practices and games, and fulfill essentially all of the duties of a coach. Referees/assistant referees are trained in the Laws of the Game of soccer and can officiate games with players 2 years or more younger then themselves.
- Referees and coaches are needed most during the fall season, from Sept - Nov. They may also volunteer during winter soccer (Jan - Feb).
- Two youth volunteers may co-train the same team or train their own teams, depending on their preference and availability of training positions.
- For youth trainers under age 18, an adult (registered with AYSO National as an adult volunteer) must supervise at practices and games. If you have an adult volunteer in mind, let your assigned Division Coordinator know. Otherwise an adult volunteer will be chosen from the division.
- Complete an online AYSO volunteer registration and take the appropriate coach or referee training as shown on the Coach or Referee pages.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask a Board Member.
