Referee Training
Regional Referee
To earn referee points for your team and qualify for post season activities (Soccerfest for U8 and playoffs for U10 and above), you must become a certified AYSO Regional Referee. This requires you to complete an online module and attend an in-person course. You can access all online training courses, and register for the in-person portion, through the AYSOU website (see the New Referees page, Step 5 for instructions on how to access it).
For the 2024 Spring season, Region 7 in-person Regional Referee course is offered several times during February and March (more dates may be added if needed, stay tuned). See the details below:

Intermediate, Advanced, and National Referee upgrades
AYSO provides continuing training for those that want to keep improving and become better referees. As the age of players grows, the matches become more challenging, and the referee needs to develop a more comprehensive approach to officiating, in order to keep the games safe, fair and fun.
Each one of these upgrades requires the referee to attain a certain level of experience (i.e., a certain number of officiated games), to pass the corresponding course, and be assessed (Advanced and National) or observed (Intermediate) while refereeing a game at the corresponding age level. If you enjoyed refereeing in the lower divisions, and want to challenge yourself, these upgrades offer a great opportunity to further develop your refereeing skills.
If you have any questions about upgrading, feel free to contact our Director of Referee Instruction.
