Volunteering

AYSO is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are volunteers. Over 125,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends nation-wide lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific AYSO experience. AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee.

If you are interested in signing up as a coach, referee, team manager, or board member, you can choose this when you register your player. See the Background Checks section below for more detail. Registration discounts are available for these volunteer roles! See the Discounted Registration section below for more detail.

But if you're not able to commit that much time, there are many small jobs you can help with. Even a couple of hours each season is an important contribution to your team and Region!

Discounted Registration

We offer discounts for registration for the following volunteer roles:

Assistant Coach - Assistant coaches (new and returning) receive a $25 refund from registration fees after season starts.

Board Member - email [email protected] prior to registering to receive a discount code to use when registering.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the above positions, email the relevant group above with any questions.

Background Checks

The safety of the players is our primary concern. Because of that, the following volunteer roles that involve close proximity to players require background checks to be performed when signing up to volunteer for that role:
- Head Coach
- Referee
- U8 Official
- Assistant Coach
- Team Manager
- Board Member

The background check is performed by separately by an AYSO National vetted vendor as part of the registration process.

Open Recreation Program

This program is targeted for kids of all experience levels, including ones that have never played soccer before. This program does not require any tryouts so everybody is placed on a team as long as there are enough volunteers. Given the fluid COVID-19 pandemic situation, the season will modified to adhere to local and state health guidelines and policies in effect when the season starts. For the Fall 2020 season, teams were placed in 'pods' and pods were kept separated for the season. Within pods, contact amongst players were kept to a minimum with players doing various drills (individual and interactive). If the situation improves by the beginning of the Spring 2021 season, there is a possibility for scrimmages within pods and potentially across pods and hopefully, games. Again, this will all be based on following local and state health mandates in place at that time.

When you register, you are asked what days (Mon-Fri) your child is available to practice during the week (for ages 6 and up). We try and match your child to a team that meets your schedule to the extent possible, but this is not guaranteed and is highly dependent on coach availability and number of players that signup. The more available days you pick for your child, the faster they can be placed on a team. Teams are generally formed about a week or so before the season starts, at which point communications will be sent out regarding team detail and practice schedules.

AYSO Philosophies

This program follows the six philosophies set by the National AYSO organization:

  • Everyone Plays - Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer so every player on every team must play at least 50% of every game.  In Region 64, we strive for 75% playing time for each player.
  • Balanced Teams - Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it's more fun and a better learning experience when teams of similar ability play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels.
  • Open Registration - The Open Recreation program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut.
  • Positive Coaching - Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.
  • Good Sportsmanship - We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.
  • Player Development - We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Spring 2021 Season Registration Prices

Open Recreation Program Prices

The following table depicts the prices for the various age groups for the Open Recreation Program.  The prices shown include a non-refundable, per-player annual (Aug - July) membership fee of $20 mandated by AYSO National and a non-refundable, per-transaction fee of $2.75. The membership fee is required to participate in any AYSO sanctioned event and covers any AYSO program within August 2020 thru July 2021, so if you already participated in any AYSO program in Fall 2020, you will not be charged this fee making your price $20 less than shown below. The $2.75 per-transaction fee is charged per transaction, so if you are registering more than one player and you register them all at once (meaning you make one payment for all the registrations), you will only be charged the fee once. If you register them separately (meaning you pay for each player in a separate transaction), you will be charged the fee for each payment you make.
