AYSO Region 795 - Chatsworth/Porter Ranch

Content

Dear Parents and Volunteers,

As always, we hope you and your families are well and staying healthy.

This weekend was supposed to be our opening weekend. We would have had our Region parade and opening ceremonies on Friday evening. Yesterday, our young players in 5U-8U would have played their games at St. John Eudes, while our 10U-14U teams would have played at Mason Park. Today, our 16U and 19U teams would have played their games. Our 2020-2021 Fall Season would have gotten off to a wonderful start this weekend.

While we all are missing what would have been, your Region 795 Board wants to still continue with some of our yearly Opening Ceremony traditions. While we cannot all get together on the field for opening ceremonies, we can still honor our 2019-2020 teams’ successes and our 2019-2020 Region 795 Coach of the Year, Referee of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Last season, 2019-2020, Region 795 had 2 League Teams make it to the Section 10 League Playoffs in Bakersfield with the 12UB and 16UB representing the region. An unpresented 5 (out of 6) All Star Teams made it to the Section 10 All Star Playoffs in Bakersfield, with the 10UB, 10UG, 12UB, 14UB and 14UG representing the region. In Bakersfield, our 16UB League Team placed 2nd, 14UB All-Star Team placed 3rd, and our 12UB All-Star Team placed 1st, and earned a spot in the Western States Games. Unfortunately, the Western State games were cancelled two days before due to Covid-19 and the boys did not have a chance to bring home the 1st medals again. This should not diminish their accomplishments as they earned 1st place at the Area 10V All Star Tournament and 1st place at the Section 10 All Star Tournament. We would like to congratulate all of our teams and their successes this past season. Our Region saw a lot of growth over the last few years and our teams’ successes show that growth. The future is bright for all of our players and teams in the region.

Our region is lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers, including the best coaches and referees in all of Area 10V. The region would not be as strong as it is without our volunteers. Each and every volunteer is important to the success of the region no matter how small or large their contribution is. With this said, some volunteers did go above and beyond this past season and we honor them now. We would like to thank and award the following winners of this year’s Region 795 volunteer awards.

2019-2010 Region 795 Coaches of the Year
Usually we select one coach for the Coach of the Year award, but these two coaches are almost inseparable. This past year, together, they coached the 16UB and 19UB teams taking both teams to the Area 10V playoffs. The 16UB team never lost a game all season and they took them to the Section 10 Playoffs in Bakersfield taking 2nd place. Separately, they also coached a 10UB team and 14UG team. Coach Brian Jacoby had a wonderful season in 10UB taking his team to the Region playoffs. Coach Marc Fluhrer along with Coach Matt Morgan, took the 14UG to the Area 10V playoffs, taking 3rd place. Coach Marc and Coach Matt also took the 14UG All-Star team to the Section 10 All Star Playoffs in Bakersfield. Between Coach Brian and Coach Marc, they coached and dedicated their time for our players of 4 different teams during the 2019-2020 season. They held practices for the 4 teams all year, attended all games, and taught our players to play together and win while upholding the philosophies of AYSO. Coach Brian and Coach Marc have coached in our region for many years and are two of our best coaches. They both had a very successful and positive year with their teams and the region could not be prouder. We would like to congratulate our 2019-2010 Region 795 Coaches of the Year: Brian Jacoby and Marc Fluhrer

2019-2010 Region 795 Referee of the Year
This year our region gained a new family, a new player and a new volunteer. Alan Witcher coached his grandson in the 5U division every Saturday at 8am at St. John Eudes. After he was done coaching, he would then would come over to Mason Park and referee for us the rest of the day. Even though he did not have any of his own kids in the upper divisions, Alan still reffed all day each Saturday and Sunday. In addition, he reffed for the region during the Area 10V League and All Star playoffs and went to Bakersfield representing the region during the 16U/19U Section 10 Playoffs. The region benefited from Alan’s experience as an AYSO volunteer, coach and referee, but the kids/players benefited the most as Alan is so positive with the kids and is the embodiment of AYSO and its philosophies. We would like to congratulate our 2019-2010 Region 795 Referee of the Year: Alan Witcher

2019-2010 Region 795 Volunteer of the Year
We are lucky to have this volunteer and family as part of our region. His family has dedicated themselves to the game of soccer and to AYSO for many years on many different levels and landscapes. Steve coached two teams for us this past year. He coached his grandson in 8U and his granddaughter in 12U. Both before and after their games, Steve would come and ref at Mason Park. On top of coaching and reffing, he squeezed in going to see his oldest granddaughter play for us on the 14UG team. Steve helped the region throughout the season at evaluations, team formations, training, reffing during the season and at the Area 10V League and All Star Playoffs, and was a huge help all day at the Region 795 10U Tournament. Besides being a coach, ref  and volunteer in the region, Steve is also the Area 10V Area Director, splitting his time and energy on many levels promoting and supporting the AYSO Philosophies. We would like to congratulate our 2019-2010 Region 795 Volunteer of the Year: Steve Singer

Although the 2019-2020 did not finish and we are all stuck inside away from the game, we wanted to still thank our teams and volunteers as we would on any normal year. Our region and AYSO in general would not be here if it were not for our volunteers. We thank Brian, Marc, Alan and Steve for their support, love and dedication to the region, players, and AYSO.

We hope to have an update on the region after Labor Day Weekend, but until then, take care and enjoy your families.

Sincerely,

Frank Gallucci
