Overview

Overview of Program
Jefferson County Youth Soccer League (JCYSL) is excited to announce tournament teams. These teams will offer players in the 9U age group and above the opportunity for additional playing time outside our regular Fall & Spring CORE season.

Potential players are selected on their skills, sportsmanship, and effort during tryouts. Players that are selected for the team will be able to play from early August until June/July of the next year. Their skills will advance tremendously. Tournaments offer competitive tournament games played in various locations around WV, MD, VA and PA. The tournaments are great ways for players and parents to form new friendships and to advance the skills of the players and coaches. JCYSL encourages all eligible players, willing to commit to the tournament season, to tryout and give it their best effort. Players who are selected for the tournament teams must also play in the JCYSL Fall & Spring CORE seasons.

Practice Times / Locations
Tournament Teams practices are typically held on weekday evenings at James Hite Park in Kearneysville, WV.

Commitment
Tournament Teams players commit to their team for the entire CORE seasonal year. Tournament Teams typically practice 2-3 times the week and attend 4-5 tournaments on select weekends throughout the fall and spring season in addition to their Fall & Spring CORE team practices and games..

Player Evaluation
The tryout process will occur over several days where players are evaluated based on all pertinent areas of the game for both current performances and predicted future performance. During the process, evaluations from multiple staff coaches will be taken into account in order to select the team. For each team a roster maximum of 10 (U9-U10), 12 (U11-U12) and 15 (U13+) will be selected.

Team Formation
Teams are formed based on the results of entire age group tryouts.

TOURNAMENT TEAMS TRYOUT INFORMATION

Tryout Registration
All players are REQUIRED to register online and tryout. Tryouts will be held on TBD at James Hite Park in Kearneysville, WV. Times for tryouts is dependent on the number of players who register and will be announce at a later date.

Tryout Attendance
JCYSL conducts open tryouts. Returning players are required to tryout at the end of each seasonal year in the same manner as players new to the program.

Only players and active technical staff are permitted on the pitch during the tryout session. Parents who wish to observe a session should remain off the pitch.

Playing "Up"
Players must attend the tryouts for their specific birth year. The technical staff will determine if it is appropriate for a player to tryout in an older age group.

Players should NOT attend a tryout without appropriate registration as it will further delay the process, and the technical staff will not have your information on their evaluation sheets.

What to Bring to Tryouts
All players should arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the start of the tryouts to check-in and receive their tryout number.

All players (U9 - U19) will be assigned a number and will be given a number to attach to their shorts with safety pins (also provided).

All players should bring the following equipment to each tryout session: Ball, Water for Hydration, Shinguards, Cleats

The staff requests that players not wear any travel uniform jerseys from any club to tryouts.

Player Notification
There is ROLLING NOTIFICATION for players. Players will be notified via email when a decision has been made about their roster status. All players should receive notification of their status within 1-2 weeks after the final scheduled tryout session.

If a player is offered a spot on the roster, the player is expected to reply within 48 hours to confirm their acceptance of this roster spot and pay their initial installment payment.

If a player has not been contacted about their status after 1-2 weeks after the final scheduled tryout session, please contact [email protected]

Inclement Weather Information
When the forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms or inclement weather, please review the information below. An email will be sent to all registered participants and information posted on the JCYSL Facebook page. Families may want to stay at the field if the weather looks threatening in case there is a cancellation during the session. Every effort will be made to hold each tryout session, and players should be prepared to play - even if there are rain showers. However, of course, if there is any lightning or any other conditions which endanger the players, the technical staff may need to suspend a session after it has begun. Safety is paramount. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Guest Players
From time to time, teams will have openings on the Tournament Teams that need to be filled when attending tournaments. In these circumstances, Tournament Team coaches are allowed to invite guest players to tournaments with approval from the Tournament Team Director (TTD) or Regional Commissioner (RC). The registration fee for each guest player shall be $60 per tournament. JCYSL will waive this fee for the first tournament a guest player participates in each membership year. If an individual guest player is requested in subsequent tournaments, they should be encouraged to join the team and pay the prorated registration fee based on the number of tournaments remaining in the membership year.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
JCYSL will follow state and national guidelines on how to return to play for regular season games and practices along with Tournament Teams tryouts, practices and games.
