AYSO REGION 165 - San Bernardino Mountains Communities from Green Valley Lake to Cedar Pines Park

Week 4 Recap

Hello Mountain Families,

Here is the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly to recap Week 4 of our Fall 2021 soccer season:

The Good

We had a 10U girls game at the end of the day that was about as close to the AYSO philosophies as I have seen in my few years with the region. The coaches did a great job of being positive with their kids. The parents were positive as well and really just cheered the kids on as they played, no critiquing of the referees or coaches regardless of the score. It was a lot of fun for all of us and a great way to end a Soccer Saturday so thank you to all of the parents and volunteers involved.

If you would like to share your positive feedback about week 3, please email [email protected]

The Bad

Lack of referee volunteers continues to be an issue for our region but thanks to the help of a few more parents and grandparents, we were able to provide official gameplay for every one of our 10U and 14U matches. We are looking worse for this week despite having a few more parents register as a referee on our website, so far only 3 volunteers signed up for a week 5 game,

Please help us create a positive and quality soccer experience for our Mountain Community. Register as a referee on our website today and then go through the online trainings so you can wear the yellow jersey on Saturdays. If you have any questions on the registration process or already registered but never heard from anyone, please email our Referee Administrator at [email protected].

Sign up to referee a game in Week 5 here:

The Ugly

Parents and coaches continuing to yell at our referees because they made a bad call or missed a call is about as ugly as it gets and unfortunately we still had some games like this. Please remember, it takes all of us to create the soccer environment for our kids and regardless of how messed up it is, referees are going to make bad calls. They are going to miss calls and some will call the game with obvious bias. This is a part of the game that does not get better each season when referees are getting screamed at during the game. Please ask yourselves, what are we teaching our kids when we complain about the bad calls?

If you would like to discuss the performance of any of our referees or coaches, please come by the board booth after the game or reach out to [email protected].
