I passed my Regional Referee Certification Class Or 8U class ,What happens next ?

Fall 2021

1. The Referee Staff will verify completion of the following Mandatory items:

A. Online Regional Referee Course if taking Companion Course
B. Regional Referee Certification (Or 8U only Certification for 8U)
( C, D and E are all available on AYSOU)
C. AYSO Safe Haven Training
D. AYSO Concussion Awareness Training
E.AYSO Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
F. Be a Current 2021 Registered Volunteer


Below is 10u and above only: 6U-8U Referees skip to # 3

2. Once verified, You will Receive an Email from our scheduling system known as
MATCHTRAK . ( Please ensure we have a good email address and please check for the
email! )

A. Username: John Doe
Password: AYSO (This is temporary)

B. Follow these steps to navigate MATCHTRAK

Remember: REFEREE= Official in the middle with the whistle, Assistant REFEREE= The
Official with the Flag running the touchline ( Sideline)

C. We recommend you pick a game before or after your Child's game to Referee, but that's just
a suggestion for convenience . Feel Free to start with Referee or Assistant Referee
Assignments. You will need a blend of both to fulfill your teams point(s) Requirement.

D. Please DO NOT Referee your own child's game at 10U or Above.
If you are there to watch, and the Referee needs an Assistant Referee, If you think you can be
neutral and unbiased, go ahead and take the Assignment.
Please email Myself: [email protected] and Brian Meehan: [email protected] and we will make sure you get *credit for that game . However, you must be in full Referee Uniform to get that Credit.
● Remember, Only games 10U and above are count towards your teams Season-long

E. You will need to be In Matchtrak and signed up for at least ONE GAME to receive your uniform and Referee Supplies ( Regional 10U and up ONLY) 

As a hint, Experienced Referees usually wear their shorts and socks all day Saturday and have our gear bags with us always.....Never know when you can knock out some more points for your team!

3. Attend our Annual Referee Uniform/ Mentor night, this is where you will receive your
Uniform and Equipment you will need to get started Refereeing 

A. We try to stock unisex from Adult AXS all the way to XXXL. Youth sizes are more limited but
we should be able to accomodate all. If you have any special requests for uniforms , please
don't hesitate to get ahold of me in the contact info below and we will try to accommodate you.

B. You will need to be In Matchtrak and signed up for at least ONE GAME to receive your uniform and Referee Supplies ( Regional 10U and up ONLY)

September 8TH Uniform Distribution/ Referee Mentor Night- 8U on-field Companion Mentor
Session 5:00-8pm Springview Middle School, 16662 Trudy Ln, Huntington Beach, CA 92647

4. Stick around for Referee mentor night after you get your Uniform and get some
Referee Experience at one of the Scrimmages being held that night !

A. Even if you can only stay for one quarter, This 12-15 minutes of your time will go a long way
in getting you prepared for your first day of Refereeing in the actual season. We highly
encourage a half a game and try both Referee and Assistant Referee at this very helpful Event.
If our response is great, please be patient and we will fit you in . Watching other Referees,
speaking to our Mentors also will be a great benefit.

B. We highly recommend that ALL 6U-8U Referees Attend and spend at least one 10 minute
Quarter on the pitch.Once again, If our response is great, please be patient and we will fit you in
. Watching other Referees, speaking to our Mentors also will be a great benefit.

C. Please watch for a Sign up sheet coming through MATCHTRAK before the week of the
Mentor night.

5. Get out there and Referee, you might really enjoy it like many of us!

A. Feel Free to Request a Mentor on any game you are doing in MATCHTRAK at anytime.

B. 6U-8U Does not use MATCHTRAK , So please request Mentors directly at [email protected]

C. We will do our best to fulfill you Mentor request at the game your requested, however please
be prepared to be flexible and to have the Mentor suggest a different Game date or time
according to their availability.
