Volunteers are the life blood of AYSO.
Please volunteer to help us fulfill our vision to provide world-class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives! Be nice to other volunteers which are trying to help our region to become better.
All Volunteers in AYSO require minimum training before working at any events:
1. AYSO Safe Haven
2. Background check unless being a youth volunteer. *1)
3. AB 506-BackgroundCheck/Livescan (after January 1st, 2022). *2)
4. SafeSport Mandatory Training. (after January 1st, 2022). *3)
5. Job training.
Note: Job Training varies depending on the job like team manager, coach, referee, etc.
The training must be completed before the volunteer takes part in AYSO events. Some parts are taken online (eTrainU) and others in-person clinics. For example: signing up as an assistant coach does not make you a coach until you have completed the coach training requirements.
*1) Background Check by Sterling Volunteers
When the AYSO volunteer application is completed in your Sports Connect Account (SCA) you will receive an email invitation from Sterling Volunteers with directions to complete a back ground check. For returning volunteers when their risk status has expired they must initiate a renewal on their volunteer page which will result in email from Sterling Volunteers. Youth Volunteers (18 years and younger) will not receive back ground check.
*2) Background Check/Livescan** Mandatory California Requirement
To help streamline the process, we have partnered with ApplicantServices.com. Through this process, the cost has been reduced to $20 – $25 per volunteer based on the process you use. If you are fingerprinted at a live AYSO event the cost is $20 and $25 at a Live Scan Service Center (UPS Stores). Please understand that this specific process has been negotiated specifically for AYSO, so you will need to register via the link provided below to receive this cost discount and to ensure the information is sent to AYSO directly from the California Department of Justice.
Please note that Livescans are not transferrable from another organization, so you need to perform this process for each applicable organization you volunteer with, but the good news is that this is a one-time requirement when AYSO registration is continuous without a considerable gap.
** AYSO Region 73 has made an agreement with a local company to provide Live Scan Services and bill Region 73.

*3) SafeSport Mandatory California Requirement.
As per January 1st SafeSport Training is required as per California Mandate for anyone working as volunteer in youth sports.
If you have completed this for USSF (CalSouth) and still valid/up-to-date then your SafeSPort certification is valid for AYSO.
