Handling Injuries

KEEPING OUR KIDS SAFE AND HEALTHY

Soccer is a contact sport. Players can get injured. Not all injuries are fouls. You can stop play and restart with a dropped ball if it is not a foul. Our priorities are safe, fair, and fun in that order.

If you whistle for a potential injury it is important to run there quickly and assess the situation. Act as if it is your child that might be injured. Assuredly that is true for at least one of the spectators. If you believe a coach is needed then gesture them onto the field and move to your nearest AR. The coach is responsible for attending to the player. Having the referee looming nearby can be a flashpoint. By talking to your nearest AR you can get additional information to inform your restart.

Concussions can occur, and everyone should be aware of AYSO's procedures for Concussion Safety.  For more information, click here
