1 v 1

1 v 1

Set up one 7x15 yard grid for each pair of players. In each pair, one player serves the ball across the grid to the other and becomes the defender. The player receiving the ball becomes the attacker. The goal is for the attacker to get the ball to the opposite end line of the grid and stop the ball on the line. Play continually for 1-2 minutes counting a point for each successful attempt. Then switch offense and defense and continue keeping score. After each player has had chance to be offense, have players on one side of the grid shift right or left, giving players a new partner.

Offense Coaching Points
First touch in a positive direction
Move forward quickly at pace
Keep the ball close and under control
As soon as the defender is beat, ACCELERATE

Defense Coaching Points
Close the gap quickly - travel as the ball travels
Slow down as you get close to the player
Make a bending run to try to dictate where the offense should go (make play predictable)
Assume good defensive position
Stay on your toes so as to quickly change position
First emphasis – Delay Offense

Steal the ball once a mistake is made

Don't stab – be patient
