Why Referee?

Referees are as critical to soccer as players and coaches, and in AYSO the game can’t be played if there aren’t enough referees. AYSO’s referee training is considered some of the best in the U.S. Prior soccer knowledge is not required.

How does it work in Carlsbad AYSO?

Ages 14 and above are welcome to referee
Referees are used for age divisions U10 and above.
After signing up, go ahead and start training (easy, see below).
Once your training is finished, we will obtain your equipment.
We release the game schedule/referee sign up in mid-August.
Season begins on Late-August/Early-September through November

How Do I Get Started?

Follow these steps:

1. Yearly Volunteer Registration

MANDATORY for all referees EACH year! Go to www.carlsbadayso.org, click on the green “Register” button on the top right, then follow the process.

2. CDC Concussion Awareness Training

MANDATORY for ALL referees every two years.
When: Any time prior to start of season
Where: AYSOU .ORG > Log in with the same username and password you use for this site.

3. Safe Haven Online Training

MANDATORY for ALL referees. Must be renewed every two years.
When: Anytime. Complete prior to training and bring printed certificate to training. Renew every two years.
Where: AYSOU .ORG > Log in with the same username and password you use for this site.

4. Basic Referee Clinic

Local clinic will be conducted in July, August and September. We will email you.
If you do not want to wait, then you can register for and attend any other live course in a different region. To do so, go to AYSOU .ORG, log in with the same username and password you use for this site. Choose the "Live Courses" menu item, Click the "Sessions" button to the right of the clinic your are looking for, then scroll down through the long list to find the clinic you want to register for. Once you find the clinic you want, click the "Register" button. Although it is rare, if another region charges you for the clinic, get a receipt and we'll reimburse you.
