AYSO is a 100% volunteer organization. Therefore we rely on all parents to participate in one way or another, whether it be as a team coach, assistant coach, referee, board member, or helping out in other ways.
Coaches, team parents, referees, and board members are all required to:
- Register as a volunteer. Click the Register Now button above or Login to an existing account to begin the Volunteer registration. You will be able to sign up as a volunteer through Sport Connect
- Take AYSO's Safe Haven training every two years.
- Take the CDC Concussion Awareness training every year.
- Coaches are required to complete online and in person age appropriate training for the division in which they are coaching. For more information on coach training see the Coaches page.
- Referees are required to complete Basic Referee Online Training as well as in person referee training. For more information on referee training see the Referees page.
- Effective, January 1, 2022, all administrators, employees and regular volunteers in California MUST have a one-time background check as approved by the California Department of Justice to exclude individuals with a history of child abuse. This form of background check requires live scan fingerprinting. To clarify, a REGULAR VOLUNTEER is a person who has direct contact with children 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year, which applies to most coaches, referees, team parents, and board members who spend 2 or more hours on the field weekly.
It is very important that you plan on being part of your child's AYSO experience from the beginning. Volunteering is a great way to do that. Be aware that EVERY parent is expected to participate in our program in some way. Your coach will give you information on our Volunteer Point System.
