The AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer experience for children and adults aged 4 1/2 and up whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams.
VIP teams may include but are not limited to those who are:
Blind or Visually Impaired
Amputees or conditions that impair mobility
Mentally or emotionally challenged
Autistic
Cerebral Palsy
Down Syndrome
In the American Youth Soccer Organization these individuals are Very Important Players (VIP).
AYSO recognizes that everyone needs to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance. Through participation in soccer VIP players experience all of these and more.
VIP provides integration with non-disabled people or "buddies" who assist VIP players on the field.
Buddies begin to form friendships with peers.
Buddies learn and grow from performing a positive service.
The players learn to become comfortable with people outside their families.
Buddies can earn community service credits.
Best of all - buddies who assist VIP players on the field have a life changing experience.
