Coach Reminders

  • 2 Registered Adults:  Always have at least 2 registered adults at every practice or game (examples are coach, assistant coach, or team parent).  One should be the same gender as the group and present at all times.  For the protection of both the children and the volunteer, no volunteer should permit themselves to be alone with any child or group of children (except his or her own) during any AYSO-sponsored activities.

  • AYSO Incident Report Form:  Report any illness or injuries requiring medical treatment, possible concussions, misconduct, AYSO property damage or loss, threats or lawsuits at any AYSO-sponsored event (practices or games).  An Incident Report Form is included in the coach folder and can be found on our website:  www.ayso870.org/safety/incident-report-form

  • Kids Zone:  All AYSO-sponsored events are considered Kids Zones.  Support Kids Zones by reviewing the Coach, Player and Parent Codes of Conduct with your team members and families to help provide for a safe, fair, fun, and family-friendly environment or Safe Haven.

  • Training and Certification:
Online training and coaching manuals are for even age divisions.  In Region 870, we use odd age divisions (the only exception is 06U).  All age divisions require Safe Haven and CDC Concussion Training.

Certification

Training and Certification:

  1. Register as an AYSO Volunteer at http://ayso.bluesombrero.com/region870.
  2. Once you have registered on Blue Sombrero, you will be sent an email from Sterling Volunteers to complete your volunteer application and to authorize your background check.  You must submit this background check within 72 hours (no cost to you) or your application will not be processed.  This is required.  You will not be able to continue with any course training until your background check is complete and your application has been approved.
  3.  When your application is approved and you are a registered volunteer, click on the AYSOU link on the home page (see the link above) and enter both your AYSO Login and Password (this is the same as the user name and password of your Blue Sombrero account).
  4.  Complete:
    • AYSO’s Safe Haven Training Course
    • CDC: Concussion Training Course
    • Division appropriate Coach Training Course and Certification
  5. Upon completion of the above courses, please send an email to our Coach Administrator Satina so she can verify your training and let you know if there are any additional training opportunities available.

* To maintain the recommended adult to child supervision ratio of 1:8 or less; that is one adult for every eight or fewer children and two adults (one of whom may be the coach and one of whom should be of the same gender as the group) present at all times.  For the protection of both the children and the volunteer, no volunteer should permit himself or herself to be alone with any child or group of children (except his or her own) during AYSO-sponsored activities.
