NOTICE FOR ALL REGION 73 REFEREES

Thank you for all you do for Region 73!!!

Soccer play schedules at Region 73 includes age division 5U through 14U.
The 16U-19U programs includes multi-regional plays and are scheduled by the Area 10A staff.
Ask your regional staff how this 16U-19U program works.

Referee Station.
The Region 73 REFEREE STATION is the place to be for all Region 73 Referees.
Check in early at this station before your first game. Let the referee administrator know if you have committed to other matches. The referee administrator may make changes to the assignments at any time.
Referee points are only earned by referees working as a referee in full uniform issued by the region.

Keep matches on time during the day.
During the regular season referees keeps a running clock. The breaks half way through each half are for substitution not for coaching or instructions. Play should not be interrupted more than two minutes.
Half time varies based on age division. No longer than 10 minutes in the regular season. Rule of thumb is 5 min.
Referees must keep matches on time. Matches that start late must be shortened with two equal halves.
Matches that start late must not be allowed to extend beyond the allocated time-slot as it will upset the entire schedule.
Matches that have an injury can allow a minute or two additional time. Matches must end five minutes before the end of the time-slot. More breaks may be required due to severe weather conditions.

First and Last Match
First match: coach(es) and team volunteers put up the nets and get team ready so match starts on time.
Last match: coach(e)s and team volunteers take the nets down when match is over and after handshake.

Signing up for matches.
Sign up for your games online at Region 73 CGISports website; click on Referee and Game Schedules in the week before game day. Please sign up for only the following Saturday's games, one week at a time.
DO NOT Referee the match (10U and above) if you have a conflict of interest with the teams or get RRA approval first.
As referees we maintain neutrality towards the players to maximize sportsmanship and integrity.
See your Region 73 Referee Administrator for further details and with questions or concerns.

Referees are as critical to soccer as players and coaches. In AYSO, the game can’t be played if there aren’t enough referees. It’s most common for a volunteer to begin their AYSO referee career by refereeing their own child’s game(8U). However, as they learn the rules, develop their own techniques for managing players, coaches and fans, and gain an appreciation for how important the role of the referee is to a fun, fair and safe soccer experience, they often find it very rewarding to expand their knowledge and experience through AYSO’s advanced training and certification process. AYSO’s referee training is considered some of the best in the U.S. and includes both in-person courses in your community and online opportunities. Soccer knowledge is a plus, but is certainly not required. The AYSO referee training will give you all you need to know to have a terrific experience on the field. All we ask that you have a positive attitude for the game.

But why should you be an AYSO Referee?
Scheduled games must have referees. More importantly, it’s rewarding and working with the kids is great fun.

While everyone is welcome, including players themselves, refereeing is likely to appeal to you if:

- like being involved with your children's activities and support AYSO
- enjoy sports (even if you didn't play soccer as a youth).
- enjoy regular workout to stay in shape
- not enough time, patience or soccer skills to be a coach or team manager.

If any of these describes you give it a try. There is no knowledge of soccer required just willingness to learn.
You have fun to be out on the field with the kids enjoying the game “close-up”.

If you are interested in volunteering for a Referee position for your child’s team, please contact the Referee Administrator at with your name, email address and child’s name OR tell your coach to let the regional board knowl
Check the Region’s website www.region73.org for more Referee information and Referee training classes.

Thank You In Advanced Volunteering!!!
