EXTRA FAQs

What is AYSO EXTRA?

AYSO EXTRA is a competitive soccer program designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities. The goal of EXTRA is to enhance each player's experience and individual growth through the game of soccer while retaining the spirit and organization of AYSO.

Teams in the EXTRA program compete against teams from Regions throughout the Inland Empire, and through tournaments, compete against teams throughout Southern California and neighboring states.
.

How do I join an EXTRA Team?

Attend the tryouts on May 17th at Eastvale Community Park. Players will be evaluated on their ball handling skills, offensive and defensive ability, game sense, speed, endurance and attitude. All players will be asked to declare their commitment level to the program and that will also be a factor in final player selection.  Player commitment is for 1 year.  Players, if selected, will be notified within a few weeks.

How Does EXTRA Compare to Club?
Both AYSO EXTRA and Club are competitive soccer programs targeting players that have a stronger desire and ability to play the great game of soccer. AYSO EXTRA focuses on the development of players in a competitive environment.

All players in the AYSO EXTRA program will play at least 1/2 of every game. We believe the game is the best teacher, and no child should have to earn playing time.
.

What is the Quality of Coaching?
All EXTRA coaches are hand-selected and hold AYSO Coaching Certification above and beyond their age group.

All of our coaches go through additional training and education to keep their skills and knowledge of the game up to date. As well, professional trainers also work with the teams/players weekly “in-season” to further develop and enhance their skills. These sessions focus on technical and tactical development of all players, as well as keeper training for those players who play that position.
.

What are the Costs Associated with EXTRA?
Registration fees for the full year for AYSO EXTRA are approximately $250. This includes all league games in the Fall and Spring seasons, professional skills training, play-off tournament, and a local tournament in January. Typically, Club programs can cost between $1,200 - $3,000 per year.

How are Costs so Low?

Each Extra team (parents, players, coaches) will be responsible for volunteering within the region during the year to earn money for tournaments, specialty training or anything else the team might need.

In addition, our referees are all from each respective team and so referee assignments are assigned and needed for home games and tournaments.

What is the Season Schedule Like for Extra?
The game schedule starts with a regular Fall seasons with games running from Late August through Late February, usually on Saturdays.  The only difference is that Extra plays half of their games “away” in other regions around the Inland Empire and the other half “home” in Eastvale.

In addition to the EXTRA season and playoffs, teams will also participate in tournaments during both the Fall and Spring seasons.
