Welcome to Nipomo AYSO Region 716!

U4 Program Notes

AYSO Playground is a child development program! It is not a formal soccer program! The objective
of this program is to help develop, in collaboration with parents or guardians, the child’s Fundamental
Motor Skills (FMS) with soccer as a common thread.

The program allows participants to gradually discover the game for themselves by scaffolding the
activities in a fun AYSO environment. Meanwhile, parents, or guardians are provided a simple
introduction into AYSO with a goal of developing them into volunteer coaches, referees, and
administrators.

There are no formal practices or set teams. Every Saturday during the season, the players will be
divided into groups by the Playground Leader(s). Each group will have an Activity Leader to direct the
activity. The Playground leader will introduce and explain a game/activity that will apply to a certain
fundamental motor skill or technical skill, IE balancing or dribbling, etc.

Groups are formed on a weekly basis (jamboree style) depending on how many players attend a given
session. Each player will have a parent (or another adult) working with them on the field to help guide
them within each activity.

After a suitable amount of time, the Activity Leader/Playground Leader will bring the players and
parents back together as a group and briefly recap what they have done and introduce the next
game/activity.

For more information or any questions, please contact the Playground Leaders, Michelle Case or Erika Fultz.
