Predator Teams

AYSO Region 172's elite year-round program is called The Prescott Predators. The Predators are a year-round soccer club that are part of the AYSO Challange Football Club, the largest soccer club in Arizona. The Prescott Predators compete against the top club teams in the state.

Year-round does mean that the Predators play 365 days a year.  The purpose of the Predators is to maintain the same team and same coach year after year.  Many Predator teams take break especially during the summer.  The Predators accommodate team members playing other sports.  The Predators ask that team members are not involved in another year-round club type program.  Each Predator team has control over which tournaments the team attends, so parents have a say in how the team operates.

Predator coaches are volunteers, so costs are kept at a minimum.  Costs range from $450-$600 per season.  Though teams require players to pay fees, no player has ever been rejected due to lack of funds.

Most funds for a Predator season are generated through team fees paid by parents. The Predators Program also fund raises to help pay for team equipment and team events.

Prescott AYSO is now following a calendar year for age divisions. An age division chart is on the primary season page.  Try-outs for Predator teams are normally in May of each year.  Check the website calendar, contact the team coach (see chart below) or use the "contact us" form on this website for more info.

Typical Season

The season varies greatly from team to team but the following is a look at the average Predator season.

  • September-November:  Predator Teams can either play in the AYSO regular season  or join the Port of Subs.  Practice is twice per week with games on Saturdays.
  • November-May:  The Predators attend 5-8 tournaments in the southwestern U.S. Some scrimmages are planned against local teams.  Practice is twice per week.
  • May-August: Summer training.  The predators practice twice per week and scrimmage against local teams 4 or 5 times during the summer.  Predator teams will accommodate players leaving for summer vacation.

College Recruiting

For players and parents on 14U and above teams, The Prescott Predators are geared toward recruiting players to colleges around the country.  The FC Challange Program is recognized by colleges as a feeder program for top athletes.   The Prescott Predators promote college recruiting in the following ways;

  • Team members are encouraged to promote themselves by building profiles on several sites
  • The Prescott Predators choose tournaments where college scouts often attend
  • The Prescott Predators are listed on college recruiting sites like NCSA.
  • The Prescott Predators cooperate with local high schools with recruiting athletes
