FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

I have some questions on your program, can you please call me?   Unfortunately, no.   We are a volunteer based program with over 1250 kids in Trumbull AYSO.   With only 12-15 volunteers that run the entire program, it would take us 2-3 hours each night for two months to have individual conversations with everyone.   That said, the answers to all of your questions on our program can be found on our very detailed FAQ pages!

Who can play in Trumbull AYSO?
- Only Trumbull resident town kids can play in Trumbull AYSO.  This is a rule that is set by the town to Trumbull.

Who must register? - All players have to register every year.  The registration is annual and takes place in Summer and Winter months.  If you child registered and played in Fall season, he/she doesn't need to re-register for Spring season.

All volunteers also must register on an annual basis and must complete the Sterling background check (no fee for the volunteer to complete the background check).

Is my child old enough? - Child must turn 2 by the start of the Fall or Spring season.

How much does it cost?  - The fee for playing with AYSO is annual.  The annual soccer year starts August 1st (example: the 2023/2024 Soccer year is from August 1, 2023 through July 31, 2024).   The Core Recreation program for all U5 through U15 divisions is $160 per child and it covers both Fall and Spring seasons.  If you child plays only in the Fall or only in the Spring, it still costs $160 per child.  The annual fee includes the cost for the AYSO National membership and insurance costs.

When does the soccer year begin?  - The Fall season usually starts after Labor Day Weekend and the Spring season usually starts the weekend after April School Break.  The season typically last for 7-9 weeks.

When and where are the games and practices? - All games are on Saturdays at Kaechele Field (by Madison Middle School) between 8am and 2pm.  Occasionally (due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances) games could be scheduled at Trumbull High School or Indian Ledge Fields.  There are no practices for 4U, 5U, or 6U.  For 7U and up: you will have practice once a week.  Weekday practices are typically on Monday or Tuesday at Kaechele Field.   However, practice days are determined by the volunteer parent coach and are subject to his/her schedule.

I am not a Trumbull resident.  Can my child play in Trumbull AYSO? - No.  Due to a lack of field space, the town of Trumbull has a strict policy were Trumbull youth recreation programs must consist of 100% Trumbull residents.

Can I request that my child be placed on a certain team? - No.  One of the core value of AYSO is "Balanced Teams" and we use rating to assure all team are balance and every child has a chance to play and have positive experience.  We do place children of coaches or assistant coaches on their team.

Can siblings play on the same team? - Yes.  As long as the children are in the same age division, parents can request for them to be on the same team.

Can my child play on an older team?  - Yes, but approval from both Division Managers is required.  Division Managers discusses the child skills and maturity with his/her coach and determines if the child is ready to be moved to an older division.  After that, then the Regional Commissioner needs to approve the change.  The change needs to be requested each year by the parent(s) of the child, and has to follow this process.

Can my child play on a younger team? - No.  AYSO follows US Soccer rules, where calendar year is used to determine the age group.   Players can pay in their age group, or in an older age group based on skill level with approval from the Division Mangers and Regional Commissioner.   Players are not allowed to "play down" in a younger age group.

Can my child wear jewelry?  - No.  This is a National AYSO (and FIFA) safety rule and children can not wear any jewelry (this includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, fitbits, rings, etc.), and unfortunately if a child is spotted wearing jewelry will be asked to take it off or sit  out.  Remember, this is for SAFETY reasons!
