Here are five easy ways you can give back to your community on the nation-wide day of giving, #GivingTuesday!
1. Donate to a food drive.
According to Feeding America, there are 42 million people that face hunger each and every day in the United States, including children and senior citizens. You can help alleviate their hunger by donating to a food bank. To find one near you, go to www.feedingamerica.org and enter your zip code.
With the combined efforts of the staff at AYSO National Office donated over 1800 pounds for the Los Angeles Food Bank.
2. Donate to Toys For Tots.
With the holiday season right around the corner, this is the perfect time to donate toys, books and other gifts to less fortunate children. Go to Toys for Tots website to see where your local donation point is located.
3. Volunteer at an animal shelter.
Animal shelters are always in need of volunteers willing to clean kennels, walk the dogs, socialize with the cats, etc. Who knows, you may just come home with a new furry best friend!
4. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen.
Many communities have soup kitchens, homeless shelters and churches that serve meals to those in need during the holidays. Similarly, many hospitals host Thanksgiving meals for patients. Volunteers are often needed and are greatly appreciated.
5. Donate to AYSO’s Hugo Bustamante Playership Fund!
Ninety-eight percent of the proceeds go directly back to the local families to ensure that children in need are still able to play AYSO soccer.
